PostE3/Summer Games Fest 2021 - How would you rate it?
by ITSMILNER » Wed Jun 16, 2021 9:12 am

So now all the events for the week are all but over, how would you rate this years E3/Summer Games Fest 2021?

I gave it a B overall, I think Nintendo's event really knocked it out of the park with some cool announcements. We also got to see a lot of other cool games announced over the course of the week, people finally got to see Elden Ring gameplay, Guardians of the Galaxy (to me) looks great. We also got a lot of great looking indie games announced.

I do think the lack of actual staged events sucks some of the fun out of it, that plus Sony not being a part of it was a bummer. Overall though I see a ton of games that I like the look of coming out over the rest of the year so I'm happy, especially when you consider how COVID has effected the industry.

Summer Games fest was terrible saved by Elden Ring and outside of Xbox and Nintendo the other conferences were low on content and news. The Square one was a dumpster fire imo.

Difficult for me to grade it because I've only watched Capcom and Nintendo's shows. Based on those two, I'd give it a C+.

Haven't actually watched any live E3 shows for years, but besides some games I already knew about being confirmed for Gamepass, there wasn't much at all in the way of new announcements or major updates that really interested me.

I've probably missed some interesting smaller titles that have had their news/trailers buried by bigger games, and I'll just end up finding out about them for the first time in a few months instead.

Rated U because its still an overblown corporate marketing fest.

C. Nintendo was decent, XBox seemed good, none of the rest needed to happen. That blockchain/NFT nonsense is a massive black mark.

I enjoyed it. Elden Ring, BOTW2, CHAOS...it had it all.

Rated it a B though because of Keighley's smug strawberry floating face.

It won't feel complete until we get the Sony show, but it's quite deflating that hasn't aligned in the same week.

Pretty good though otherwise, lots of games coming that I want to play - on Switch especially.

Overall a D for E3. Nintendo and Devolver saved it from being an embarassment, and Devolver was just a shitpost. Xbox was fine, but not for me. Everyone else shouldn't have turned up.

Gamesfest gets like a B, C if I'm harsh. Good drops, but too much padding to actually nail it.

Solid E3. Good updates and a few cool surprises. The second half of 2021 is absolutely jammed for me. Going to be very expensive.

Little Devil Inside
Kena Bridge of Spirits
Advance Wars 1+2
Wario Ware
Metroid Dread
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Remakes
No More Heroes 3
Super Monkey Ball Remakes
Axiom Verge 2

If I had an Xbox then I'd need to find time for Psychonauts 2, Twelve Minutes and Sable also, because all three look very much my vibe.

If Horizon 2 hits in time for Christmas I'd be surprised.

For 2022 onwards, Trek To Yomi is the once new reveal which really stood out to me.

Mythic Games I think they were called. Basically selling a skin for a... I want to say game? but it might just be an investment scam? for $150. Scroll through this tweet chain and the replies for more.

Did we get an update on Little Devil Inside over E3 week?

Not that I'm aware of, but it is supposedly still a summer release?

Hopefully, its been radio silent since it was shown at that PlayStation event last June I think. Although I remember some controversy due to the look of some of the characters so they might have had to redo some of it.

Your list is spot on to mine, I'm interested in Guardians of the Galaxy but happy to wait for a £25 price. With the Pokemon remakes, me buying them all hinges on if they will add the Platinum content or not.

I honestly thought it was really bad. Microsofts showing was strong (which in truth was the best outcome for me as it's where i prefer to play my games right now), but everyone else (including Nintendo sadly) either had nothing to show, or nothing that appealed to me personally.

Sony not being there instantly drops it down a level as it simply feels incomplete.

B for me; Forza Horizon 5, BOTW2, Sable, Toodee and Topdee, Fallen Aces, WarioWare, Metroid Dread, Olli Olli World, Replaced and Mario Golf.

I’ve watched nearly all the E3 footage and without Nintendo’s conference I would have thought it was very poor indeed.

I do sort of have concerns about the future of the next gen systems and gaming in general though; there’s next to no system sellers in my eyes, lack of electronic chips, how does Sony compete with the bargain of Game Pass and could this lead to another video game crash? If less folks are buying games and just relying on Game Pass.

I genuinely had no idea E3 was even on. I was wondering why there were so many game announcements trending on Twitter.

It's a C from me, not terrible but not fantastic either. Some interesting stuff was announced but there was nothing that really got me fired up sadly.

The fragmented nature of things these days and the fact that I struggle to find the time to watch the conferences live means the experience is always going to fall short of the glory days.
