EA did something like that in NFS Payback, so it wouldn't surprise me. This is why we can't have nice things.

The EA f1 games for PC and PS2 were strawberry floating great, especially this one:

Which is my second favourite f1 game behind f1'97.

But then those games were back when EA and the internet wasn't so much of a thing.

Microtransaction for car parts to build your own car

That’s what I was thinking of :( Also speeding up the upgrades in the career modes rather than waiting weeks you can pay to have them on the next race. As you said Trelliz, they’ve started moving in this direction with their past few games already so EA or Take Two would just speed up the process I fear.

That was a good game. I remember it being completely eclipsed by the N64 game though, depite it being the latter being nowhere near as good.

Still, "Let's see that again" etc :dread:

These and Take 2 are just as bad as each other, but you’d have to fear for the studios continued existence with EA overlords. Rebranded into something like ‘EA UK’ or something.

So they'll be less Codemasters and more Codeslaves after this!

EA have a pretty big monopoly on sports/racing licenses now don't they, great.

It's worth pointing out this hasn't actually happened yet, but I'll enjoy Dirt Rally 2.0 while it lasts.

Codemasters has approved EA's $1.2 billion acquisition bid

during Tuesday's earnings call, EA said that it wants use the Codemasters acquisition to pitch itself as "a global leader in racing entertainment", with the capacity to put out new "racing experiences" on an annual basis.

Oh they'll be experiences all right.

I’m still really torn on this, the F1 games (and to be fair most of the titles they release) and generally very good to solid racing games but I can just foresee new games being rammed with micro transactions (sadly the F1 series has already slowly moved in this direction but that’s merely for cosmetic things). They were really set having acquired the WRC license from 2023 as well but who knows now, high chance F1 2022 will be my last purchase unless they don’t got over the top with needless rubbish.

It's probably a good job that F1 pit crews aren't particularly well-known as I could see them doing an ultimate team-style "surprise mechanics" system to really ruin it for everyone except them.

It'll be done with car parts.

Codemasters was already doing multiple games a year. We had 3 from them in 2020, and the last releases from the Dirt, Grid and Project Cars series were all considered somewhat disappointing.

I got the impression that the latest Grid and DiRT games were meant to be solid but nothing amazing? Project CARS 3 was their own doing though, PC1 and 2 were heavily focused on the sim side of racing but 3 just massively toned it down from what I read so a lot of fans of the previous 2 games didn’t think it suited the PC3 title.

What do you mean while it lasts? I have it, but it’s on the back burner.

PC3 was so poor compared to the previous 2 games (both of which I own and played to death). As much as they tried to deflect away from it, it really wasn't a SIM any more, far more like something like driveclub but on real tracks, which would be fine if that's what you wanted, but i wanted the actual project cars 3, not need for speed club. I played it once for a couple of hours and deleted it. I play PC2 whenever I want to play one now.

I just mean Dirt 3.0 will be littered with the usual EA shite.

I guess possibly due to some kind of consumer leglisation they won't be able to erode Dirt 2.0 whic I'm enjoying a lot, but they probably will add some ludicrously expensive credit purchasing option (not sure if there already is one, I'm assuming there is but my version came with 20,000,000 credits or something).
