The latest game in the Earth Defense Force series is out tomorrow 11/03/2019.

Made by a different developer with new character classes, enemies, gameplay and an overhaul of everything.

Standard and super edition to choose from. Special edition comes with promised DLC and weapons plus new missions.

I've bought the special edition and just waiting for the store to unlock it....

Anyone else a fan of the series?

Is this the one that came out in Japan last year or a different one? I've been wanting that one for a while.

EDF has always looked like a blast but I've never actually played a game from the series. I remember the Consolevania boys always used to rave about EDF back in the day!

It's big, dumb, janky, low-budget fun.

It's the gaming equivalent of straight-to-video B-movie cheese and it's great fun.

That was EDF 5 this is a sequel/spin off/ reboot.

Reviews should be out tomorrow. EDF 5 was brilliant simple fun and this should hopefully be more of the same but with a few things tidied up.

See also War of the Monsters, that had similar 'cult' status.

I remember my brother buying about 8 copies of it for a fiver each from Play then flogging them for £25 apiece on Ebay.

This latest one is written by, I believe, Yukes rather than Sandlot, the coders of most of the games in the series (i.e. barring Insect Armageddon, which wasn't quite as well-received).

This latest one does looks pretty neat and I like these B-game kinda romps, but I'll be holding off for a sale.

Did an hour or so of this before work. Feels very different to normal EDF games. So far a lot less enemies on the screen at once but I'll see if that's the game just trying to build tension.

Rather than randomly find weapons and armour instead the game let's you use currency found by killing enemies to upgrade yourself. Works a lot better as I can spend a fortune on armour and survive a bit longer.

The game feels like a current gen version of EDF a series, that like Dynasty Warriors has always been a few generations behind.

So far very happy with it and will put a lot more hours into it over the coming days.
