Edge magazine has decided upon it's Game of the Year rankings for 2023:

1 - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
2 - Baldur's Gate 3
3 - Super Mario Bros. Wonder
4 - Humanity
5 - Cocoon
6 - Alan Wake 2
7 - Charts of Sennar
8 - Street Fighter 6
9 - A Highland Song
10 - Counter-Strike 2

I don't think I've ever played as few new games in a year as I have during 2023. I played about forty minutes of TotK before deciding I would play BotW first. And that's my experience of the games on this list! I would like to give Humanity a go on PSVR and Baldur's Gate looks complex-but-interesting.

Of course they'd put Zelda over BG3. And Wonder number 3?!

And no sign of Resi 4 either. Absolute rag of a magazine.

I’ve only played 2 off that list (Mario and Zelda) Mario is my personal GOTY.

A Highland Song only just came out so I wonder what got pushed out of the top 10 to make way for it?

Surprised to see Humanity in there at all, let alone at number 4. Everywhere else I've looked seemed to put it down as a functional but underwhelming 4x.

No Resi 4 feels a big omission but otherwise quite an interesting and varied list.

You're thinking of Humankind that came out I think last year.

Humanity is the puzzle game where you play a Shiba Inu guiding a horde of humans to various places.

Yeah the list seems perfectly fine to me, I've never understood why people get upset at this kind of thing!

It's a shame Slay the Princess hasn't been noticed in a more mainstream context, but choosing from "big releases" I'd have the same top 3!

Do they have a 'no remasterals' rule? Would make sense why Resi 4 is omitted.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Looking at previous top 10s I reckon this might be right actually. They ignored Resi 2 in 2019 too.

Lmao, I even played and really enjoyed Humanity. :fp:

Need to go back and finish it, excellent puzzle game.

Don't worry, it's just an elaborate mind-game. I figured if I got really into one indie game, my Celeste hate would hurt RKN even more.

I’m only an ending and a bit in, but the game needs to come up with an original idea soon or it’s getting refunded.

I thought it was really good, but I'm not "well-read" enough in this kind of visual novel to pick it up on originality. Maybe you're right!

Yup! If it is a rule they have against remakes I think it's unfounded - it's very much a different game to the original.

I'm going to really get into the worst souls-like in retaliation :x

Hang on that's not the Edge cover with the awards in is it?! But on the topic, I can't decide if the Slightly stiff even stresses of Where Winds Meet is good or bad for it (compared to say, Where The Winds Meet)

P.s. I think AHS deserves to be there though it took me more than one run to fully sync with its specific rhythm. Was worth it!

Could this be changed to the general media GOTY thread? I don’t see why Edge warrants a thread to itself, and there’s nowhere else to post this:

Eurogamer’s top ten (actually top 50, but only the top ten are ranked).

https://www.eurogamer.net/here-are-euro ... #section-2

This is a much better list for me. Pikmin 4 is there, and though I haven’t played it yet, it’s good to see Shadow Gambit.
