Let's face it, it won't matter how the poll ends up. Just give Eighthours his mod buttons and be done with all this.

As much as 69 people thinking Eighthours would be a good mod, there are 71 people on this message board who are against him becoming mod.

IMHO, you've screwed up big time puting this to public poll. Shouldve just made the guy a mod. Another good point on your CV tnman. :fp:

Delete the whole thread and just flat out deny any poll ever existed.

A lot of the "no" votes aren't against me personally, but against the need for there to be any more mods at this time. It's a shame that the poll question didn't reflect this ambiguity, from the point of view of assessing my level of unpopularity. :D

Maybe people are saying "we dont need anymore mods", just an excuse becuase they dont want to say " i dont think Eight should be a mod".

I don't think that's the case for the people who have posted that in this thread, personally. But only they will know in their hearts.

As I said to Proto earlier: "Incredible. A topic passing judgement about me that I'm interested in? Hold the phones!" :D

143 votes split pretty much down the middle? That must be a world record...

Voting for a Mod isn't necessarily a popularity contest, though. The fact is Eight is well-known in these parts, that quite a lot of forumites here like and respect him and know he livens up most threads he initiates or contributes to. If anything, I should think the epic nature of this very topic illustrates just how well suited to the job of being a Mod he'd be. Everyone seems to have an opinion and it's no wonder the 'Cade's first monster thread is all about Eighty. He has his detractors - quite rightly - and they've not been backwards in coming forwards with their half penneth worth. In my opinion the overall verdict of of this entire poll lies somewhere between 'Yes' and 'I'm not fussed'.

In which case - case closed. With any luck The Management will read between the lines and agree.

Just one vote in it? It's like Barack and Hillary all over again

As for the number of no votes, many can be attributed to the "we already have enough mods" camp, but there are clearly quite a few who have voted for more personal reasons and have not seen fit to say why.

I have a solution.

Make 'hours a mod, regardless of the vote result, and then give everybody a two-day amnesty to berate him, should they want to.

This will make 'hours and the staff happy.

The regulars will get back to being happy

This thread dies.

Everyones a winner.

Except DML.

Now it's back to just one vote. Watching this topic has been great.

I don't understand "we have enough mods" argument, I mean so what, we get one more, it changes absolutely nothing. I voted Yes, as if he wants it and all the other mods and founders are in agreement then I don't have a problem, as long as Eighty wants it obviously.

If I do win tonight and take up the role, then I propose that we re-run the poll in a couple of months to see whether forumites think I've done a good job.

If they conclude that I haven't, then I'll step down.

This will give the people who don't like me another chance to get rid of me, but will also give me the time I need to hopefully change the minds of many of the "no" camp.

However, let me reiterate that I intend to abide by the results of the poll tonight. It's ironic how a system that I strongly supported when we were setting up this place, in order to give members a proper say in how this forum was constructed, could well end up screwing me over.

I hope that won't happen, of course, so I encourage anyone who has supported the running of this place so far to continue to trust the judgement of the admin, mods and founders by voting "yes".

Do it the same if you loose. In 3 months once this place has settled run the poll again and see if people want you as a mod. Either way then we get another epic thread in 3 months.
