watchable, but not very interesting.

feels like it was a chance for Vince Gilligan to a bit more directing and sharpen his skills? (I think this might be his first 'movie')

I didn't mind it. It was nice to be back in the Breaking Bad universe again.

This was good but I think I preferred Jesse's story ending as it did at the end of Breaking Bad.

I mean, it doesn't actually change anything, just confirms what could already be assumed from the ending of Breaking Bad. The story then was largely pointless, even if the film was well made and engaging. Events unfolded, but nothing developed - I'd have preferred something set slightly later, after a little time skip. Maybe Jesse in his new life already, presented with an opportunity to enter into criminality but ultimately avoiding it. That would have been a nice end for his character development.

Someone should really have told Todd to lay off the pies!

I thought it was fantastic - really well made, great performances as always, some stunning visuals, basically all of the elements that made BB so good in the first place. It was a perfect little coda for the show.

I don't agree that it wasn't necessary or didn't change anything.
BB ends with Walt having broken Jesse out and therefore presenting him the tiniest glimmer of hope for a future, but this showed just how hard Jesse still had to work in order to turn that spark of hope into a reality. I think it said a lot about the changes in Jesse from the guy at the start of the show to who we see in El Camino.

Thought it was decent, and I enjoyed it. Nothing groundbreaking or revelatory happened, but it was good to see more of certain characters.

Gotta laugh about the fan theories about who the (you ready?) guy in the trailer was. Turned out to be some utter randomer.

Total goosebumps when Walt came on (quite cool this was sent just after the episode they was cooking in the desert when the camper van broke down and Jessie was in similar clothes to the present. Thought for a second Walt was supposed to be a paranoid delusion of present day Jessie. The transitions from flashbacks to flash forwards were done well. Just jarring enough to make you feel slightly disorientated like a Jessie would have felt. Walts flashback cameo came at just the right moment. Just after I stopped worrying about if he would make an appearance and felt like the film could more than survive without him so it was a nice surprise.

Loved the Todd scenes. I thought the series used him exactly right - very sparringly. They have absolutely nailed the irredeemable, dangerous psycho "something missing there" vibe and this was helped that it did't really have that much screen time or dialogue in the series. But I really enjoyed all the focus he got in this.

The Jessie, Skinny Pete goodbye was so touching. Skinny Pete is a good gooseberry fool really

Maybe it wasn't 100% necessary or needed, but although it wasn't the plan from the outset of BB, Jesse ended up being just as much a main character as Walt so I think it's fitting that he's got his own finale of sorts now.

I really enjoyed El Camino and am very happy it exists.

I don't like it when people refer to entertainment as "necessary". But I would be quite interested how this will affect the shows legacy. I wonder how someone in five years time watching BB for the first time and then put this on immediately after Felina (so not having the six year gap between the two episodes we had) would feel about this film.

Love that the Skinny Pete police interview from the trailers wasn't in the film, and probably was never intended to be. Perfect trailer fodder. (7/10 btw, totally fine, completely forgettable).

Just finished it.

Felt like 2 episodes of the series to me, but two good episodes that gave a nice ending to a character that was otherwise tortured throughout the entire run of the TV show.

If people are wondering why Jesse Plemons looks so heavy, he had to put on weight for his role of Chuckie O'Brien in The Irishman.

It's a shame that this is frozen in time now where it looks like he let himself go between the series and this film, when in fact he's got the build just right for Scorsese's.

Irregardless of his weight I felt his performance was brilliant. The way he walked the line between jovial and friendly and complete psychotic was great. Despite knowing how it ended there were times I felt he might actually let Jesse go.

I thought the film was ok, but was not as good as a bad episode of Breaking Bad. It was still pretty captivating though, and it was great to see some of the characters again. I found the "flashbacks" a bit hard to swallow, as all the characters had aged considerably, and it was pretty noticeable.
Still preferable to what has been done with "The Irishman" though.

Agreed, he played the “dead behind the eyes” sociopath perfectly.

The movie didn’t go anywhere new and it was decent, but a bit of a disappointment. No doubt Todd acted well but the scenes with him didn’t feel right because he looks so different to BB

Nah.

El Camino is the first time we've seen this Jesse free from the control of others. Throughout BB he's being manipulated or controlled by various actors - Walt, Saul, Gus, the Nazi's etc. He's always being twisted, abused or cajoled into actions beyond his control, here we finally get to see an emotionally developed Jesse push out free from that and how he gets to earn a way to start a new life where he's in control.

Just finished, I kind of agree with the people saying the ending in unsatisfying, but I actually enjoyed it. The cinematography was great and it had more grit than the series, but ultimately did less.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.
