No computer has ever passed the Turing Test to see if, during text-based conversation, a machine can be indistinguishable from a person. But Elbot just came pretty close.

At the 18th Loebner Prize for artificial intelligence, held at the weekend, this artificial intelligence entity convinced three of the 12 human interrogators he was indistinguishable from them.

If Elbot had convinced one other, it would have passed the magic 30% mark - the threshold set by Britain's most famous code-breaker, Alan Turing, who devised the test back in 1950.

What's more Elbot, the very same version that came so close to passing itself off as a living, breathing, sentient human being (under Turing's rules at least), is online - for anyone to talk to.

Its range of knowledge is quite impressive, he even knew who Bender from Futurama is! Still though, if this is a whisker away from passing the Turing Test, the test must be very flawed.

I hadn't talked to a chat bot in years, so i had no idea if this was impressive or not. Obviously not then.

They always answer questions with questions and can't follow a conversation. Irritating as strawberry float.

The test is hardly flawed as as far as I know it's just to get a computer to have a conversation with you and you think it's human. The test will have different results depending on who takes it as some can be more easily fooled than others.

It's quite funny. He made me do a word association thing.
Me= Stop it
Elbot= No I intend on continuing.

:lol:

Me= No
ELbot= sorry I only process negatations in binary
Me= 1011011
Elbot= 11100010111
Me= 2
Elbot= That was a highly erotic number you just entered. You could make a strong robot melt using digits like that...

:? :lol:

Even if I hadn't known it was a computer, it gave itself away after a couple of replies. What idiots are they using for the Turing test?

Will it change its name to The Mighty Goat-Bot?

This is gooseberry fool. No better than that Yeti one I played years ago.

I tried asking it: "What was better, iRobot, or Blade Runner?"

Response: "Wait a minute. Are you suggesting that Elbots would always be better?"

Epic FAIL

It asked where i had heard about it.

I replied "..on my forum it is populated for the most part by adolescent deviants!"

It asked why it hadn't been invited!

Yeah it's gooseberry fool. Two sentences in and it resorted to a non-sequitir. It actually sounds like it's starting to get mad at me, I won't stop pointing out its flaws.

I read all these posts and decided that I would give it a shot but with low expectations. However, down my line of questioning it seemed to respond rather well. Few mistakes here and there, but better than most I've tried over the years. Could see how someone could consider it human, but I would know better. It's attitude does more for it in that respect than it's ability to converse.

3/12 may have been about right.

To be fair, it would have more personality than many people here.

Well the snarky attitude also helps because then you don't expect it to answer all your questions properly.
