Yes and that's not the point.
I hated the fact that a monster I beat at the start of the game could still give me a serious challenge at the end. The sense of extra power for the character is completely lost as apart from a few new whizbang effects nothing has really changed and I'm still having to run away from the same monsters.

Sorry for being so negative but it just feels like such a fundamental flaw I feel it needs discussing.

No problem at all, every one is entitled to their own opinion.

I personaly never really had a problem with the difficulty of npc enemies on Oblivion, once or twice maybe. I had trouble more so on the prequel Morrowind, in which the enemies were a set level and usually very tough, especially at the start of a new game. Maybe they will create a new, more balanced levelling system for the new game. Either way i'll almost certainly be buying it regardless, if the announcement turns out to be true.

It's one thing that's always put me off when trying to play Morrowind.

Please be true! Oblivion was fantastic and I really want to see what Elder Scrolls V will be like.

It's not true though is it?

I also loved Oblivion, but I sort of agree with Peter on the levelling up. I understand why the devs felt it was necessary to ensure the game's non linearity, but there's got to be a better way...

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Surely it can't be beyond them to program it so that the game sees what level you are at when you enter a dungeon and put in a set of monsters designed for that level and then once the level is done keep the monsters in that dungeon the same? Sure it may take a bit longer to design each dungeon if they have to have 5 or 6 sets of level specific monsters but I'd rather go into a dungeon and face a normal or slighter harder goblin than face a goblin who's somehow as powerful as a dragon.

A new Elder Scrolls would be so awesome, but in reality I do not really need a new one. I have probably only done about 20% of the sidequests in Oblivion and will get round to completing it fully one day. This has to be one of the best games in terms of atmophere and immersion. The way the music is used throughout the game is almost perfect and it just makes you feel as though you are part of this huge world. I wish I was a kid and had endless hours to play this, because it really is stunning!

I love Fallout 3, I really do. However, there is one thing that annoys me with it. I can't pick literally everything up in the same way I could in Oblivion. It's silly, I know, but having some things seemingly welded to where they are seemed a little arbitrary to me.

Fallout 3 > Oblivion

Though I did try and be a sneaky Rogue which ultimately failed as the enemies levelled alongside me and I couldn't compete in the straight on battles mid-game. Hell, the battle at Kvatch was a serious slog even at the start. V needs to be built in such a way that I can play any class and still beat the game.

If you level up 'properly' -that is, making sure to maximise your stat gains every level and keep increasing core skills (combat, armour, magic), then you do see a steady increase in player power versus enemies. That it's so easy to level up wrongly is the problem.

How well has Oblivion aged after 3 or 4 years? I must admit all this fresh Oblivion talk from you guys is tempting me to go out and buy the game again. :)

I wonder how many people put Running (or whatever it was called) as one of their core skills, and wondered why levelling up didn't seem to mean much.

 Oh dear.

As I recall it was still possible to play the game, you just had to be liberal with the difficulty slider.
