Bethesda’s arming a massive nuke for E3 in a week-and-a-half time: an Elder Scrolls V announcement, if what most of the internet is guessing rightly.

According to Abstract360, the latest issue of Famitsu has several companies confirming they still have surprises up their sleeves, including Konami and Ubisoft. But Bethesda’s surprise segment is marked with “secret”.

That’s despite company PR guru Pete Hines saying at the company’s US pre-E3 event back in April that it will have nothing to announce at the LA mega-event.

And if there is an announcement to come, it wasn’t listed by the company when it announced its E3 line-up earlier this week – all of which were the titles we seen at its European pre-E3 event in France back in April.

However, its been four years since the last Elder Scrolls title, Oblivion, so this would naturally make sense.

Amazing news, if true.

Either that, or Fallout 4.

If they don't ditch the enemies leveling at the same rate as you then I'm out.
I want to be able to flatten the enemies I found at the start as it just feels like I'm helping them all level up as well  .

I loved Oblivion.

LOVED IT.

Would love to see what they are now able to do with 4 extra years under their belts.

Basically I just wanted you all to know how excited I am by this announcement.

Maybe it's just me then but the thought of everyone being leveled up at once really made the game a non-starter which was a bit of a git considering I paid for the Limited Edition :fp: .
Maybe I'm just old fashioned?

Nah Peter, I felt the same. I got sucked in, then lost interest when I wasn't making good progress.

I would absolutely love it if they announced a new Elder Scrolls game. Oblivion is still one of my favourite games this gen and as long as it doesn't turn out to be an MMO I'll be extremely happy.

I was going to do a long-winded post about how much I loved Oblivion but I'll sum it up in three words:

Oblivion is one of the best games I have played so I am obviously looking forward to this.

I do hope the rumours of the next Elder Scrolls being an MMO don't come true. I want another single player epic like the last game.

An Elder Scrolls V (no MMO) announcement would make E3 for me.

But let's not get carried away just yet...
Bethesda not bringing an unannounced game to E3

I woke up this morning to find a few sites reporting that Bethesda Softworks would be bringing an unannounced surprise to E3. This by way of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, who has reportedly hinted that Bethesda would have a "secret" "surprise" for the show, scheduled to take place in Los Angeles later this month. Some have even begun speculating that the next Elder Scrolls would be uncovered.

Here's the thing -- this isn't true. Bethesda has already revealed its E3 hand. Its previously announced games, Fallout: New Vegas, Hunted: The Demon's Forge, and Brink will all be playable. id Software will also be bringing along a hands-off version of its long-awaited first-person shooter, Rage. I know this because Bethesda has already publicly announced it, and at a pre-E3 event, I already had a chance to see this stuff. I look forward to bringing you more details when E3 starts.

Does Bethesda has something else up its sleeve? Has it been hiding something? In short, no. When contacted, Bethesda's Pete Hines was clear: "We’ve announced everything we’re showing and talking about at E3."

To be honest, Bethesda doesn't need a surprise. I don't think I'm breaking any embargoes by saying it has a strong E3 line-up, shocking reveals be damned. Do you not agree?

No, it's just not a good idea. I can see what they wanted to do in theory, but in practice it just gooseberry fools over the whole point of an RPG.
