He didn't make it as such, he had a website that either merged or later became PayPal, he then sold his stake in PayPal for a boat load of cash. I'm not sure how involved he was in the coding or whether he was just using his families money to be a part of it.

He's not an inventor, he's an investor. SpaceX/Tesla are owned by him (or he has the biggest stake in them), he then employs people to make his ideas - space rockets and electric cars - a reality and he then makes money from that.

to be honest i was a little distracted while typing that and somehow forgot all the swear words

Bullshit monopoly if there ever was one. PayPal is literally a monopoly based upon selling fear. It's also a massive conduit for fraud, phising and scams. Anyone can create an account to sell anything, even if they lie about what that is. You don't even need a bank account! If you remove the fear, it has no purpose and should collapse. I hope one day cryptocurrency replaces it because it's similar principles but not structured around one giant megacorporation skimming everyone else's money.

They also constantly buy up any competition that is better. For example, Braintree, iZettle (I use both). And now they're accepting bitcoin.
