Habit, ease of viewing news, no settled alternative and there's still some enjoyment to be had from (carefully curated) some of the posters there.

It's become almost impossible to morally justify continuing to use it though.

I would encourage everyone to delete their account and drop it.

By using it, you're contributing to a right wing fascist propaganda tool. The more people who drop it the quicker it can die and be replaced.

Makes a change for IBM to withhold funding fascism, usually they are right there supplying the machines needed for an efficient holocaust.

Although it has minimal/no impact (because we're talking literally billions of backlinks to Twitter), and doing so could credibly reduce the "authority" of my professional web presence by just not strawberry floating having a Twitter profile (Google will use it an a gooseberry fool load of other signals to verify the authenticity of a domain/authority/longevity/activity etc), I feel like getting rid of it too.

I mostly post about disability advocacy, usability, human rights, and other "left wing" stuff on Twitter so it's kind of where I go to take moaning into a constructive discourse. The value of that is not massive anyway. I have a few old connections on there that I have little or no window into elsewhere in my life but it would be extremely easy to find them if I was proactive about it basically anywhere else on the web.

I haven't inked my Google listing to Twitter though (new functionality, I added all my other networks), so I might just quietly drop all mention of it from my sites. It's not like Google isn't going to find that profile I'll retweet something on from time to time and link it to me algorithmically anyway.

As an artist I'm active on Instagram (I say that, I barely post) anyway so kind of glad I never found myself invested in Twitter. Must be crap for journalists etc.

Again very small fry me but I'm increasingly as close to uncomfortable as I could be being just 1 degree of separation from such a steaming pile of gooseberry fool of an owner.

I feel much better for having deleted my twitter account. Literally the only thing I miss was PoppyWatch but it's obviously not worth keeping for one account. Now if only getting rid of Facebook was as easy

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

The biggest loss for me of getting rid of twitter has been that it's slightly more difficult to keep up to date with a couple of art accounts I like who don't utilise their mailing lists that I'm on. I just have to occasionally go to their websites when I wonder if they've done something new. I think I've maybe missed one set of prints I might have been interested in as a result. It's not a big loss.

Really miss very little else from there.

I miss being able to chat directly with musicians I like, but apart from that it's been no loss.

I don't have any social media accounts now, it's brilliant.

I still have an Instagram that I use for photography, but the quality of the feed is always getting worse. It used to be OK for a few months, just other art accounts I followed or other posts that were at least related, but the longer I've had it, the more the stuff that gets pushed into my feed feels less and less relevant. Even just viewing the updates from a gym near me, because the only place they put news on upcoming events is on their social media, means I now have fitness influencer bullshit constantly appearing. It's infuriating.

You jest but since I deleted all social media, my time browsing GR has increased. Sometimes I just sit, refreshing, waiting for a new post to read. And the disappointment when it's the football thread is palpable.

I wasn't really jesting. GRcade is social media. The only difference is we are a tiny corner of the internet and a benevolent (mostly ;) ) owner.

Forums were social media before social media existed.
