I'm not the most plugged-in to the industry (alright, that's an understatement :slol: ) but I've never heard of Embracer Group.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Nope, neither had I until this thread. I'm guessing they're a rebadged company we have heard of!

They used to be known as Nordic Games and - after purchasing THQ - THQ Nordic. They've became pretty big through buying up other publishers and developers. When you think that Zenimax (Bethesda) was purchased by Microsoft for around $8bn, it'd probably cost more than that to buy Embracer.

Or the licensed music gets removed. I need to get on this.

GotG doesn't even have online servers so if you have your own copy it'll remain fully playable (At most it'll be missing a few DLC costumes)

It requires server authentication before you get to the main menu (as you mentioned with the costumes - that is a server requirement). And as Mori mentioned, music licences could also cause a problem even if Disney allows the Marvel licence to be used.

Sounds like they're going to be making full use of the back catalogue and not just sitting on them:

After the end of the quarter, we further strengthened our development capabilities and IP-portfolio by entering into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain and other IPs. The announcement got an overwhelming and positive response. We see a great potential, not only in sequels, but also in remakes, remasters, spinoffs as well as transmedia projects across the Group. We expect the transaction to close in the July-September period.

I’m excited for remasters/remakes for Legacy of Kain before an eventual new title

Seems clear that a new Gex game should be top of the priority list :datass:

On a similar but different note I wish Rebellion would stop just sitting on the Core Design back catalogue. They acquired Core's assets bar Tomb Raider back in 2006 and have done naff all with them. I know Tomb Raider was easily the jewel in Core's crown but they had some other fun titles like Rick Dangerous, Banshee and Heimdall. Surely it wouldn't be that hard to knock up some kind of Rare Replay style collection although is the demand there?

Deus Ex remake surely. I’m sure they’ll be able to get…whichever frigging Spector’s blessings.

And now Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has bought an 8.1% stake in Embracer Group, costing around $1Bn and making them the second-largest shareholder in the company.

Of course, Saudi Arabia's PIF have been in the news in past months for their purchase of Newcastle United FC and, in the gaming world, SNK.

30% of Capcom I believe and billions of dollars worth of shares in EA and Blizzard/Activision too.

Finally an excuse to play through Mankind Divided.
Hope it picks up from where it left off, but I wouldn't blame them if they start fresh.

I asked for this. :datass:

Clearly got many years to wait before it appears, hopefully it can build on what they achieved with Human Revolution and Mankind Divided as they were both far better than expected, even if they did still fall short of the GOAT*
