I mean, the Borg were coming to strawberry float the Federation up regardless of Picard, they just wanted him as a mouthpiece and mechanism to try and influence the Federation to submit without too much fight. It's not like Locust/Picard was the driving force behind the whole thing

I also finished a rewatch recently, but it's fun to read your opinions and I'll chip in every now and then.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Yes.

But that's not how an actual human being would see it when Picard is in front of them.

It's one of the (very few ;) ) things DS9 did well in the first 2 or 3 seasons. Rather than have humans acting like they are logical Vulcan-lite beings, they gave Sisko a proper emotional response to the man who was the mouthpiece of the Borg invasion (an invasion that killed his beloved wife ).

Watching it on TV, we can all see that Picard was not at fault and couldn't help what happened. Picard is 100% deserving of sympathy and understanding.

But Sisko wasn't watching it on TV. He lived it and was traumatised by it. Acting like a bit of a dick to Picard was actually pretty damn mild compared to how most humans would react.

It's just a shame that after that, we get 50+ episodes of shite. ;)

Lower Decks is mostly shite isn't it. :dread: But it answers the question of what if Rick & Morty was crammed with Star Trek references and was even less funny?

I might skip chronological order and jump to Strange New Worlds after LD (I can't wait for this gooseberry fool to be over), Prodigy started before SNW, but doesn't appear to finish its first season until the end of December. Plus, I think LD is killing any enthusiasm I have for animation.

Sorry mate, but I hate it as much as I've ever hated a TV show. Other than a few exceptions, it makes me think pulling out my own eyeballs would be more fun.

For completeness sake I'm going to finish it (I don't have many left), but it won't be something I ever re-watch.

If you don't like Prodigy I think I might actually cry.

It'll have to be REALLY terrible for me to rank it below LD.

Lower Decks is great! (I mean, it definitely has some weak spots but overall it's better than a hell of a lot of the rest of Trek from this century!

Emissary
I actually think this is a really good opener, a far stronger episode than Encounter at Farpoint for me. Sets up the situation really well, introduces our main players, their relationships and the points of friction that are going to form the backbone of things for the foreseeable future.

Avery Brooks is excellent in his portrayal of Sisko in the key points of this episode - the opening tragedy of losing his wife, the encounters with Dukat and Picard, meeting the "prophets" etc. but agree that in some of the more "day-to-day" interactions he's still finding the character and would take some time to do so.

I like that right from the start we are establishing a more "frontier" feel to things than what we've seen in TNG to date - the few times that show went to more lawless areas of space it always came off as a bit ropey for me, here they definitely setup a much more compelling space for stories to play out (even if they struggle to deliver on that for quite a while... :dread:)

Most of the characters get a good amount of material to introduce themselves, the only one who feels a bit short changed is Bashir who just comes across as a bit of a smarmy prick, but I'm sure he'll get plenty of good time to show us more facets of his complex character over time...

Overall though a great opener

Good, I wouldn't want to be friends with somebody who think Boimler is a creation of comic genius. :x

I blasted through Strange New Worlds in a few days.

Thought it was absolutely brilliant. Easily the best Trek since Voyager and if it keeps that quality up in the future, then it may well challenge near the top of my rankings.

I've completed live action Trek (other than two of the Short Treks :x )! Just Prodigy to go.

I said at the time it first released that SNW has arguably the strongest first season of any Star Trek show and I stand by that. Loved the whole season.

Genuinely interested to see where they take it.

I'm a little disappointed you didn't like Lower Decks. Especially because behind the humour (And even in some of it), in the details they've clearly got a lot of love for Star Trek and there are some cool character moments.
But if it's humour isn't your thing then that's cool as well. LD is a little divisive in wider Trek circles.

And your timing for Prodigy is perfect. The season one finale is out a week today and for the most part it's been an excellent addition to the universe. Some wonderful episodes.
It IS a kids show, so you need to be able to deal with that, but it's still very much Star Trek and it actually channels some Star Wars in places as well. It's been my biggest surprise with all of Nu-Trek, and as I keep saying it's got the best main theme of any Trek show since Voyager.

It's just not my thing. My reviews start positive, but soon turn into a sweary whingefest.

You need to update your signature, Pike is more than worthy of a place amongst the others.

Just spotted that all 10 pre-Kelvin movies are now available for free on All4, that would have been handy a while back!

Captive Pursuit

"I am Tosk", is this Guardians of the Galaxy? ;)

Finally a good episode! I actually really enjoyed that. Interesting new species, O'Brien and Sisko were great and it was resolved in a decent way.

I bloody hated the Ferengi in TNG, they were annoying as strawberry float. But I'm liking Quark, he's funny!

Q episode next by the look of it. :datass:

Q-Less

Is this doctor the most horny being in the entire universe?

"Crusades, Spanish Inquisition.....Watergate"

I love Q, but this was a meh episode. It didn't feel like Q was needed at all, he was there just to make some funny (and some creepy) quips. The main plot was a little dull. Vash as a character isn't great, it was fun when her and Picard were flirting, but dull when she's being stalked by Q.

Dax

I usually like courtroom episodes, but this wasn't one of the best examples.

But there were interesting questions raised about the Trill (which always makes me think of bird seed) and whether they can be held responsible for the symbiote's previous life. I'm not sure they really answered it, so I hope it comes up again in the future.

The Passenger

Iggy Pop?

Sadly no Iggy Pop

Hmmm. It was an ok episode. But the "unkillable" killer and the "oh he's taken over Dr Bashir!" didn't gel with me.

Quark is easily my favourite character in this so far. Weird how I couldn't stand the Ferengi in TNG!
