I've just finished S1. Other than one episode (which was FANTASTIC), it has been a very long slog.

Let me guess - Duet?

That's a great episode and widely regarded as one of the best

Yep. It was so far ahead of the other S1 episodes. It was going at warp speed while the others were still travelling by donkey.

Sorry I've been a bit behind with this guys. Been away for a week or so and it's slipped my mind.

No graphic for this week, but we will be wrapping up Season 4, which means 6 (!) episodes.

Should be back to normal for the start of Season 5.

Duet is a shining beacon in the otherwise slow and not particularly interesting Season 1. Harris Yulin is a great actor

The Drumhead

Cracking episode that suffered from being forced into a single episode, a two parter would have vastly improved a story that was already pretty great.

Picard in a court room is always fantastic. And seeing witchburning/McCarthyism is still around in the future was a depressing (but riveting) look at the human psyche.

Half A Life

Troi's mum is so bloody annoying. It would have been a much better episode without her dramatics.

I was surprised by the ending , I figured he'd either go off into the Federation or would somehow convince his people that they were wrong. I didn't expect him to accept his fate and go willingly to his death!

The Host

Silly episode. Not bad, but was hard to take it very seriously. They missed a good opportunity at the end to highlight a "same sex" relationship though.

I suspect Riker volunteered so quickly as he suspected he'd get to strawberry float Crusher ;)

The Mind's Eye

Brilliant episode with a fantastic performance from Burton.

I've never seen the Manchurian Candidate but Wikipedia tells me this episode was basically a remake of that movie. I've definitely seen similar stories in movies/TV, but this was one of the better versions.

In Theory

It's not fair that Data gets more action than anybody except Riker.

Bit of a meh episode after The Mind's Eye. It felt like a sitcom where the android character attempts to live in domestic bliss. Almost like an episode of Wandavision.

Redemption: Part 1

Klingon politics are interesting and ridiculous all at the same time. Crazy bastards.

Worf is a great character and Dorn puts in a great performance here.

And that Klingon cleavage :shifty:

Why is Tasha bloody Yarr back?

Redemption: Part 2

That banana split on Data's ship. :x It really winds me up when people are horrible to him.

The Tasha Yarr wasn't explained very well. I think I understand it from looking on Wikipedia, but it should have been explained clearer.

That's a minor moan though, it was a great 2 parter! Action, sexy Klingons and Worf/Picard/Data all being awesome.

They should have killed the annoying kid though.

Darmok

Brilliant, I really enjoyed that. While a different story and outcome, I got Arrival vibes from it. The difficulty in communicating with an alien race when their way of speaking is so different to our own.

Ensign Ro

Picard getting a haircut seems pointless. ;)

Another great episode. It's sad that we are 30 years on from the original series and things like "settlement camps" are still so relevant.

What is it with Starfleet Admirals being dickheads? This wonderful future where humanity has moved on and its still the unworthy nobs who make it to the top.

Silicon Avatar

Start of the episode and Riker is already trying to start colonising the new planet with his seed.

I strawberry floating hate people that are mean to Data. :x

Not as good as the last few episodes but nowhere near a bad episode. The killing of the crystalline entity was an interesting thing to think over. I totally understand both sides of that debate, killing it was wrong, but if it had killed a loved one of mine?

This is a great week, I'm a big fan of Darmok and Ensign Ro, which is obviously very scene setting for elements of DS9.

Wasn't Ro originally lined up to be part of DS9 but the actress didn't want to do it so we got Nerys instead?

Not sure if Nerys was instead of Ro, but yeah that's the long and short of it. They wanted Ro on DS9 and Michelle Forbes wasn't for it.

Glad they didn't get her to come back for it to be honest.

I love Michelle Forbes in just about everything I've seen her in, but I'm not sure I could stick her for an extended period.

Also gutted to hear about Nichelle Nichols, but not entirely shocked. She's not been well for quite a while. :(

I've still got 200,000 episodes to go, but Uhura had the best line in all of Trek so far. And I doubt it'll be beaten.

Season 5 has a ridiculously strong opening batch of episodes.

Redemption is arguably the best 2-parter in TNG (Yup, better than BoBW for me) and Darmok is one of the best "concept" episodes in all of Trek.

Looking forward to Ensign Ro and Silicon Avatar tomorrow I think.

Yep, it's a great period for the show. Darmok is an absolute belter of an episode

It was quite a while ago that I watched those episodes, but I remember really enjoying them.

DS9 is starting to get better (S3), but my god those first 2 seasons were a slog. I was close to giving up at one point.

The reward for your faith, my child, is seasons four to six.

Does O'Brien finally beat Bashir at silly space squash?

You're asking if something good happens to O'Brien?

Glad you're over the initial "hump" with DS9. It really starts to get going in season 3.
