A great sci-fi concept that's well explored. There's so much packed into it as well, a real breakneck pace!

I forgot this and had to read synopsis

Forgot that Harry died and for the rest of the series is actually a duplicate. No wonder he was never promoted!

All the lower Decks crew are now a higher rank than him :D

Even at this stage in the show it's ridiculous that he hasn't been given any kind of promotion yet, he's already done a whole bunch of stuff to earn some kind of additional recognition, but when you factor in that we still have 5 seasons more to go and he never gets any kind of career development... :fp:

Even worse is that Paris commits a crime that gets him 30 days in the brig and a demotion to Ensign and then gets re-promoted back to Lieutenant again whilst Kim is still an ensign the whole time.

It's his own fault for being the most boring character in all of Trek.

Not sure if it was because Paris was the only pilot

A little behind and currently watching Meld. I'd forgotten how good this episode is.

Brad Douriff is phenomenal and Tim Russ puts in a good performance alongside him.

Might be one of my favourite Voyager episodes.

Innocence

Good performance from Tuvak, but strawberry float me those kids were annoying. American TV is always so terrible at writing kid roles and getting decent child actors.

I didn't realise they were a Benjamin Button race until it was revealed, that was quite well done and was an interesting idea for a story (even if it makes no sense, do they give birth to elderly people?!). I think the Animated Series had a similar story? It was just such a shame it was all ruined by annoying kid actors!

Vulcans are so weird. Constantly claiming to have no emotions, while clearly showing things like irritation.

The Thaw

I've paused 11 minutes 35 seconds in. The episode started well, but I wanted to predict that I am going to hate this. The music and dancing is going to send me over the edge.

13 minutes in: Christ, even St Hubbins/Chuck isn't going to be able to save this. Ok, no more pausing, let's get this over with.

I was right, it was shite. Such am-dram bollocks. A nice trick at the end though.

Tuvix

I didn't think much of this until the last 10 minutes or so.

I found Tuvix quite creepy at first and struggled to shake that feeling. The premise was also a little too ridiculous.

But those last 10 minutes were very well done. It's obviously a situation that we'll never be in, but there was a very big moral question there. Tuvix wanting to live was heartbreaking. And as much as Tuvok and Neelix deserved to live, I think Janeway was very wrong to kill Tuvix just to get them back.

Resolutions

This wasn't bad, but it certainly felt like it was just a treading water episode that will be instantly forgotten.

I just don't buy that Janeway and Chakotay would have that experience ( ;) ) together and it all be forgotten. But I bet it'll barely ever (if ever!) be mentioned or referenced again.

Interesting that primates seem to have evolved all across the galaxy. And they look just like Earth ones! :slol:

I can't watch The Thaw now without seeing Chuck McGill! I do think it's quite fun in that it feels a bit like a throwback to some TOS style episodes, and yeah it's a nice trick at the end to win - Mulgrew is great at delivering these kind of moments

Just watched this one.
I do like that they don't make it an easy way out for her at the end.

EDIT: And I'm really not a fan of The Thaw so I skipped it. Just really never liked it.

Yeah Tuvix was pretty creepy, kind of off-putting, but then that's sort of the point I guess!

I've missed putting anything up for a few episodes but have been watching along still, some stray thoughts:

Innocence is pretty decent, although it really feels like the aliens could have just explained the situation to Janeway sooner rather than risk a potential face-off over it.

Tuvix feels like an episode that really should have more to say than it does, but as noted above it ends well and it is satisfying that they don't just pull a "oh he has to be turned back because wibbly wobbly DNA-y means he'll die if we don't" so the Captain has to make a genuine decision to end him.

Resolutions Oh god, this triggers memories of Janeway x Chakotay shippers... :dread:

In general I have to say that I'm enjoying Voyager WAY more than I remember doing back in the day, I don't know if I was just too into DS9, or put off by it not being "my" crew from TNG but back in the day VOY always rang kind of hollow for me. Now with more distance I think it's much easier to appreciate it as its own thing.

I preferred VOY to DS9.

Janeway made the difficult decision for everyone and brought Tuvok and Neelix back. That's why she's the captain.

The difficult decision to murder an innocent.

Resolutions is a weird episode.

I do like that after being stranded on the planet with the weird disease bugs she has absolutely no qualms about befriending the first animal to come near her.
And we all know how clean monkeys can be.

Was never a fan of the Janeway/Chakotay stuff here either.

Basics - Part 1

Wormtongue

That was exciting! I didn't think Seska was dead and was 99% sure the Kazon guy was lying! Still, it was well done! Although I they should have killed them instead of marooning them, I don't think they'll be in control of the ship for long. ;)

I'd not have been happy if I was watching this as it aired. The cliffhanger would have had me screaming at the TV.

End of season 2. I'm still preferring Voyager to DS9. Some shite episodes of course, but overall it's been a much stronger opening two seasons than DS9 (and even TNG!) had.

Basics - Part 2

Probably from this thread, but I remember hearing that Bones catchphrase was "I'm a doctor not a ...." but he didn't really say it that much. The Doctor in this says it all the time though, I assume as a Bones tribute?

So much for the prime directive, although it wasn't their fault. ;)

The stuff on the ship was better than that on the planet. It all got a bit stereotypical caveman down there!

It's a shame that Wormtongue is dead, I guess there wasn't much else to do with him, but he was a good character. I was less fussed about Seska, her character ran out of steam a while ago.

Decent stuff, let's hope season 3 carries on this well!

Flashback

The description has me excited for this one. Sulu!!

We've had Bones, Spock, Kirk and Scotty appear in other "new" Trek and now Sulu. I think it's only Uhura from the original crew that's not been in TNG/DS9/Voyager? Hopefully she turns up at some point.

Objectively this was a bit of a nothingy episode. But the nostalgia (even though it's much less than a year ago for me  ) made it charming. It's always great to see the original crew, even if they are always criminally underused when they show up.

The Chute

Captain Kirk's (mk2) dad playing an ambassador. ;)

This had all the makings of a very good episode, but just felt like it couldn't quite bring itself to greatness.

I think if they had stuck to a prison break/intergalactic diplomacy story then it would have been excellent. The whole "clamp making them violent!" thing just felt unnecessary.

It was a nice twist when Kim got to the top of the chute and found out they were in space!
