I actually quite like regular Tennents, as generic lagers go it’s alright. That special brew shite can get in the strawberry floating sea though.

Tried a nice lager yesterday that I picked up at ASDA, Mahou Cinco Estrellas.

Down to my last keg now, so I’ve ordered another three - Hertog Jan, Spaten and the Oktoberfest Lowenbrau.

As much as I loved the Jupiler, I’m now positive that Lowenbrau is my favourite (so far). Keen to see how the new ones compare. Still slightly obsessed with this machine.

I'll be glad to get a free one if I do the offer (stock permitting), but the 1-litre capacity combined with the stronger Oktoberfest edition(s) is a recipe for silliness.

Found the email about QR codes on keg returns.

we’ve also just made returning your kegs even easier. We’re moving away from the cut-and-stick QR codes, and from September 11th you won’t receive these in your orders. No more cutting out the codes and individually stick them to your kegs - just box them up and let us do the rest!

How does this magic work, you ask? We’ll use the returns label produced from the Keg Return Hub on the outside of the box to identify your kegs - so it’s really important that the only courier sticker on the outside of the box is your Beer Hawk-arranged Yodel or Collect+ returns label! You will need to remove any stickers on the outside of the box used for returns.

6.2% Abyss - Tropical Thunder

Not quite enough juiciness so it has a little bit of hop harshness but it's not bad.

had camden town's collab with Marmite: Love to Hate.

Some marmite aftertaste, but mostly smokey notes.

I’ve tried the Spaten and Hertog Jan kegs now. The Spaten was pretty similar to the Lowenbrau, but the taste of the beer disappeared the instant it was swallowed, so felt a bit hollow. The Hertog Jan was OK, but nowhere near as nice as the Lowenbrau or Jupiler. So the Hertog has been switched out mid-keg so I can try….

The Lowenbrau Oktoberfest. Goddamn. What a beer. I’ve got to order more while it’s still available. Even though it’s only slightly higher ABV, it feels much more potent. And the stronger flavour is fantastic. It kind of reminds me of a lighter Leffe Blond (though I’m sure if I had one of those right now, the differences would be obvious). I just hope that going back to regular Lowenbrau isn’t going to be a disappointment!

Stocked up on Jupiler and Shelby in last week’s multi-buy deal.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the Hertog, mightnt bother trying it now, it's not like there's a shortage of good lagers. Have you tried the Stella yet? (did you think it was so bad that it was not worth commenting on!?)

Next time I order I'm thinking I'm going to start the subscription after all. I'll then use the credit from the order itself and the keg returns to put towards other stuff I want when they appear in the weekly multi buy offer. Going to go for Lowenbrau, Jupiler and probably Stella.

The Hertog is still worth a try. It’s not bad, but I just prefer the others. I wouldn’t rule out buying it again, maybe when I want a change, or to make up the numbers for a multi-buy.

Forgot to post about the Stella. It’s a perfectly good pint, and despite its reputation I’d happily order it again for a bit of variety. The PD version is certainly the best tasting Stella I’ve had, and is miles apart from the tinned stuff.

Gone back to finish off the second half of the Hertog keg that I’d swapped out. It really is fine, but inevitably suffers by comparison with the just-finished Oktoberfestbier. Weirdly, the first taste I got was bubblegum! I googled it and thankfully I’m not the only one who detected it.

If anyone is thinking of getting a PerfectDraft, I’ve got a referral code (expires end of October) that gets you 15% off (worth about £40, depending on the bundle you go for), and bags me £35 credit. Takes the cost of the machine down to about £200.

If multiple people are interested, I will of course alternate with Ste’s code, if he has one.

I didn't get a referral code.

Have you seen they are doing a week of promotions and a new keg this week! Think it's going to be an expensive week.

I returned 6 kegs yesterday but probably won't be credited quick enough.

I’ve done a bunch of customer surveys recently, so maybe that’s why I got the referral code.

I haven’t seen anything about the promotions, but I’ll be watching. Just spent most of my saved credit on three kegs. I thought I’d try the Tennent’s. Won’t be buying it again. Very bland. But I’ve also got a Leffe Blond to look forward to.

The new keg is going to be:

https://www.schneiders-landbrauerei.de/en

Looks like it'll be right up your street!

They are doing a pack of 2 with two Schneider's glasses and an Oktoberfest candle(!)

There's also going to be 12 kegs in the multi buy section this week.

I got an email about it all. It asked you to sign up for notifications and in doing so I got £5 in beer vouchers. I don't know if it'll still work but if you want to PM your email address I'll forward it to you to see if you can get them too.

Oh yeah, that’s looks interesting. Definitely up for trying that.

I guess they’ve got a lot of candles left unsold!

Cheers for the email. Can’t see anywhere to sign up, so I guess it’s too late.

Moved onto the familiar territory of Leffe Blond now. Glorious stuff, in limited amounts.
