And now I want to go to Tesco

I just signed up for Beer52 as I only have to pay postage for 8 beers. I'll cancel after that and then check out Brewdog or your suggestion of Beer Hawk. Plus trips to Tesco!

btw there was a code that got you 10 beers rather than 8 in your first order.

I got this in my last order https://www.beerproject.be/en/beer/grosse-bertha/ It's bloody delicious but I can't find it anywhere :x

That's interesting. Might explain why they have quite a large Brewdog selection. I've never been a huge fan of theirs, but I got the Hazy Jane 4 pack and rather enjoyed it. Waitrose was pretty good for craft beer too back in the day. I remember a good decade plus ago I tried a few American craft beers when I went to NYC. Back in the UK they didn't really sell anything, but Waitrose had stuff like Sierra Nevada.

I don't actually live in England, but am sadly stuck here until I can go back to Germany, so am enjoying relatively cheap and excellent craft beer. My local Londis has an amazing selection, even selling Garage Beer Co. It's still pretty expensive over in Germany for basic stuff :( .

I don't think a lot of people realise just how good the craft beer selection is in some supermarkets.

It’s worth giving their fancier stuff a go from the website or a bar.

The big name stuff (punk, 5am etc) is nice enough but not out of this world, but they still make a load of smaller batch stuff that is awesome and is the “proper” Brewdog not the money making machine that’s in supermarkets.

BD have a brewery in Germany (Berlin) now so should be easy to get good stuff.

On the subject of craft beer, I recently did 6 months in SE Asia and there is a pretty good scene there now. Vietnam especially had some cracking craft beer on offer, and for amazing value (obviously pretty expensive for there but way cheaper than here). Taiwan had some really nice stuff too. I didn't try too much in Thailand though as beer is weirdly expensive there. A shitty Chang is cheaper in England than Thailand for example....

I wish I had saved the picture but its from what I thought was Thailand and had a bar advertising:

Single Gin/Rum/whatever spirit and coke for $2

Double spirit and coke for $1.50

Triple spirit and coke for $1.

The alcohol was much cheaper than Coke so by reducing the soft drink to alcohol ratio you got a cheaper stronger drink.

Ha, yeah gooseberry fool like that was cheap...and lethal. But a craft beer from Thailand hovered around the £9 mark for a pint. A 330ml Chang from a 7/11 was around £1.50, whereas here a big bottle is £1.50. Most locals instead drank rum which was gross but cheap.

£9 a pint in Thailand for a craft beer? Domestic and International? What insane pricing, it's Scandinavian levels of cost in a country far from Scandinavian levels of purchasing power.

I wonder why beer is taxed to absurd levels in Thailand whilst spirits are so cheap there's presumably no tax on them?

Yeah it's pretty weird. I was there maybe 9 years ago and remember it being cheap for basic domestic beer so was horrified this year. I barely drank whilst there, and kinda regretted not getting my fix in Vietnam and Cambodia :fp: I remember browsing the fridges and saw a pretty cheap bottle with all the beers. Got back to my hostel and cracked it open only to find it was rice wine....Again, like the rum/whiskey it was cheap, so no idea about the beer tax.
