im still happy with them - maybe my taste is more pleb than i thought

I've just been getting a shitload of generic IPAs for 3 months now. The first box, (the free one  ) was brilliant and had one amazing beer that I haven't been able to find anywhere (Grosse Bertha).

This is why I dropped the ages ago, was so much dull stuff and things that were “exclusive to beer52” which just means lazy contract brew rather than actually finding good beers. My tipping point was when they did a theme of some Scottish island which doesn’t actually have a brewery on it!

The Beer52 snacks got both worse in taste and size.

I cancelled ages ago as I didn't care for the beers and don't drink enough at home so they were just building up in the cupboard.

But the snacks went from being a big bag of Walkers Max spicy crisps to a tiny pack of weird tasting "healthy" crisps alternatives. I'm buying a box of beer, I'm not worried about eating the far superior normal potato crisps and instead eating boring olive flatbread pieces etc.

Also resented that I could sign up online but had to cancel via a phone call instead of the website. Using a smartphone as a phone in 2020. :dread:

Eebria used to do a good one, it’s currently on hold due to Covid, it costs more than Beer52 but it’s way way better. There are 2 versions a Discovery Box like the Beer52 with a range if styles and breweries and a Brewery box that’s a set of beers from one brewery.

The Beer Hawk one looks pretty good, but I’ve not done it.

I quite like the idea of the Honest Brew one, you pay 10 a month and it goes into your account and your use that credit to buy whatever from their store or lots of beers.

You can email them to cancel, but of course they don't tell you that.

It's my belief that every drinker has two sets of go-to drinks: their standard and special picks. Standard is just hour-at-the-pub quick-piss-up, grab-a-multipack-from-Tesco's stuff and special is when you're feeling more flush or chuffed. Doesn't mean they have to be single-brewed brandy from 1782 or owt, it all depends on mood and personality. Let us test this theory by leaving yours.

I was only expecting to write two things but I expect this is going to get out of hand very quickly. This is in no way due to the fact that I've been wanting a proper pint for a fortnight and am going a bit mad.

Normal set in black, special set in blue.

Lager: Coors Innis & Gunn
Bitter: Boddington's Worthington
Stout: Guinness London Factory Big Milk Stout
IPA: Hobgoblin IPA Lagunitas
Just Get Me Blasted: Desperados Wake Up And Smell The Gose

Spirits:
Whiskey: Jack Daniel's Maker's Mark
Tequila: El Jimador, Casco Viejo Cabo Wabo Resposado, Patron Blanco

Since they started doing it in cans I've been drinking quite a bit of Shipyard American Pale Ale lately. I'm also a bit partial to a can of Dragon Soop now and then as a mid sesh pick me up.

I've heard of Dragon Soop but not seen it anywhere. What's it like?

Also I tried Stone Cold Steve Austin's favourite beer (that isn't his own licenced one); Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Not a fan. Booooo.

Currently drinking this:

Tastes like someone bunged a blob of strawberry jam into a pint of general Wetherspoon's real-ale-of-the-week, though surprisingly it's not bad. I imagine it's what Homer Simpson had in mind when he tried to make Skittlebraü.

I was intrigued because Brewdog = No, but Evil Twin = Very Yes. Just opened it and intriguing is probably the right word. I expected a (tastefully) burned malt with maybe an edge of milk stout, but what I got was a very potent taste, like one of the high-end cocktails I occasionally get from the poncey local wine bar, just with that aftertaste of burned coffee malt. Strange! The weirdest thing is I can't place that "cocktail" taste. It must be a Gunpowder Punch, where they legit set fire to stuff and get a bunsen burner out. Nee bad, anyway.

Oh it's definitely an acquired taste and not for everyone. Even I can't drink it all nite and it's the closest thing I have to a spirit animal. Kudos for trying it though!

Funnily enough I got the last three tins of it this morning. 8D

Just to check you poured this one right, due to being a nitro you don't gently pour it you have to flip the can upside down and pour out that way and settle like Guinness or the feel will be all wrong.

Love this beer, is one of favourites of the Tesco range right now, Fuzzy Recall is my outright fav of the Tesco stuff.

Been drinking Cpt Morgan and coke as my go to drink recently. I started trying to branch into Whisky Highball with Teachers, but despite how much people tell me it's easy to drink the taste is just too strong for me still at the minute. I guess you get used to it?

Had an afternoon in Bakewell after an interview so went to the Thornbridge Brewery, had some Fika - cold brew coffee stout 7.4%, extremely nice. Never seen it anywhere else so even though it was barely midday I had to try it.

Dragon Soop is very sweet so if that's not your bag I'd avoid it. It's like a can of Monster Energy but around 8% ABV. It's also a little expensive at around £3.00 a can but one can is all you need really as it's like rocket fuel.

Don't drink Teachers for gods sake its made for alcoholics and homeless people. Really nasty cheap whisky.

If you want something smoother and easier to drink try Bulleit Bourbon or Monkey Shoulder. They're nice to drink straight, over ice or with a mixer. Both can be picked up from your local supermarket at a reasonable cost so not too much of a risk if you don't like it.
