I do think social media should have some form of ID varification. I suppose I'd equate it to something like having a phone line installed in your house, it would be very difficult to make completely untraced racist phone calls in the UK for example as it is all traceable.

It doesn't need to spell the end for Internet anonymity, just for the major sites like Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram etc. The ones that have a real monopoly on the market.

I think that would stop a lot of racist abuse, and any that persist would be traceable.

The players unions should really organise a proper boycott and threaten to set up their own FA/UEFA/FIFA site/app for players to speak directly to fans. Twitter in particular fail to act over and over and it seems to be getting worse and not better.

I've gotten 'actions been taken' from Twitter but not what exact action.

Someone typed the N word (with gaps cos it's blocked) in Rocket League and I reported it and the next day when I booted up the game it said the account was banned (from RL) which was pretty cool.

I used to love those threads in the Xbox forums from parents and owners complaining that MS IP banned their consoles (effectivley bricking them from ever using online) cos of racist remarks!

It's be like "my timmy can't go online anymore" Dry response:"he used a racist slur several times over chat" but given exact times and dates.

We should destroy the right of anonymity for gay, trans, victims of domestic abuse and those living under tyrannical regimes, plus all the people that don't have/can't afford ID to catch a few racists?

I've reported open neo nazis on twitter before, and they've often at most had a temporary account lock out. A few actual bands, but typically for tweets that were garnering a lot of attention and getting mass reported.

The most ridiculous thing about twitter moderation is there are a while host of accounts that are blocked in Germany, where they are legally required to remove nazi gooseberry fool, but they must have made an active choice to leave all that content available to the rest of the world. Twitter are capable of moderating their platform without mandating ID, but they choose not to.

Twitter and social media is currently a very unsafe place for black, trans, gay, domestic abuse victims and those under tyrannical regimes. This isn't about getting rid of a safe space, that safe space does not exist at present at all.

But sure, let's all let twitter get away with allowing racist, homophobic and mysogynist content. Them big corpos need all the protection.

I never report people on PSN because I remember reading about people having their own account banned for "false reports" and just the idea that PSN not agreeing with your report can lead to your own account being banned is mad.
