Euro 2020: Italy win it; morons, encouraged by UK govt., racially abuse England's greatest team since '66.

I'm actually glad for the respite for the next 2 days, the wife has started getting a bit fed up of our evenings being dictated by the UEFA fixture machine. Let her have a couple of days of choosing what to watch and suddenly everything'll be coming up Milhouse :toot:

Early predictions looking at the bracket:

Round of 16

Wales vs. Denmark,
Italy vs. Austria,
Netherlands vs. Czech Republic,.
Belgium vs. Portugal,
Croatia vs. Spain,
France vs. Switzerland,
England vs. Germany,
Sweden vs. Ukraine, .

Quarter-finals

France vs. Spain
Belgium vs. Italy
Netherlands vs. Wales
Sweden vs. Germany

Semifinals

France vs. Belgium
Netherlands vs. Germany

Final

France vs. Germany

Potential England/Wales semi-final which would be fun.

I'm actually more confident of England beating Germany over the other teams they could have got from that group. The German defence doesn't look anywhere near as good as it did in the past, I think they can be got at if we play with pace and Müller doesn't look the player he used to be.

Saying all that, England will probably lose 3-0 with Müller getting a hat trick.

I think Germany is the weakest option we could have got, and probably gives us our best chance to progress again. However, that chance is still close to zero. Germany are the masters of over performing for some time now. In contrast, England, for decades, have underperformed at the big occasions. Aside from the last World Cup of course where I think we were probably on about par with our realistic quality.

Hungary would have been the weakest option.

Read them vertically from the top. Cyprus/Russia, Sweden/Denmark and Poland/Andorra are the matches in question.

Well Germany can score and we can defend so what will happen is we will cancel each other out and it will go to pens.

There I said it!

The problem with that analysis is that we can't defend

Harsh given we had 3 clean sheets and the joint best defensive record in the competition.

As anyone who looked at Harry Kane winning the WC 2018 golden boot will confirm: stats only tell part of the story.

I challenge anyone to watch any of England's recent games and tell me they feel confident about our defensive display. Being solid in defence and "getting away with it" are not the same thing!

Can't see Wales beating Denmark to be honest. But this beautiful team have proven me wrong before.
