I don't understand. England, English fans, the English Football Association of all organisations should understand the importance of proper matchday security. How many times in the past has poor organisation led to disaster? If this were a capacity crowd on a normal day, you could well have seen crushing, injuries and potentially even deaths the likes of which haven't been seen for more than thirty years. It's a disgraceful report.

It's a shame, since we're superbly setup for hosting a World Cup. Tons of great stadiums all relatively close to each other for travelling times, with all the additional facilities required.

But I agree, I'm not sure if I'd fancy a major football tournament again for a long while now.

It pisses me off because drunken louts can cause a disproportionately large problem. Not just at the stadiums in terms of security, but also the impact of how it comes across visually. You've got 30 odd million English fans watching at home (and most at the stadium) not identifying at all with any of that stuff, but the world sees the idiots doing their thing and it ruins everything.

Wembley has been infamous for its lack of security ever since it opened. It's easy to get in without a ticket (not that I ever have). Obviously it's never been on the scale of last week but I wasn't that surprised.
