The whole "keep politics out of sport" thing needs to strawberry float off really. Opposition to racism, sexism, transphobia and homophobia is politics but it's politics in support of values that we should all hold dear.

If people want politics out of sport, then they first need to stop being bigoted banana splits.

Trouble is if they decided to bring opposition to racism, sexism, transphobia and homophobia into Football they'd piss off a large part of the fanbase. If anything they'd probably alienate their target audience. I can't imagine most people who watch football either a) care about those things and get annoyed when people try to bring it up (aka supporting it by inaction) or b) take part in those things themselves.

It's a very small number of football fans (in Western Europe at least) that are racist/homophobic.

The request was by a politician - not the German team, not the DFB, not anybody with anything to do with football or the tournament - and purely in response to which team was visiting the stadium. There's been no similar request for any other game or in response to any other team. So it's pure politics and has nothing to do with football or Euro 2020 - it's fair enough that UEFA said no. I don't know what the law is in Hungary that Germany disagrees with, but Euro 2020 isn't the place to show your disapproval.
