Lists are there to be disagreed with. It's total forum-fodder. Part of the fun is the banter about list choices. Sure, some people take it too seriously, but most of us are just happily sighing at the dafter choices and wishing other games have been chosen. I don't think people are apoplectic with rage or anything like that.

I thought many believed EG to be the best writers website?

Why all the EG hate for the Gears 2 comments? Richard Leadbetter really likes it that's got to be worth something, right (if it's the same Richard Leadbetter from the Mean Machines days)?

Nice to see Fallout 3 at 2.

John Walker: I'd love to tell you what I think of this, but I can't play it for more than ten minutes without it crashing to the desktop. Or permanently freezing in VATS mode. Or having an actor so awful I have to gouge my ears out with a pair of scissors. I hear it's great, and it seems to have been voted awfully high. I wish I could have a go.

If only it were available on consoles...

Perhaps - gasp - he doesn't own a 360? And perhaps he'd rather play on the PC version that he's paid good money for? Just a thought. Us writers don't get sent every single game released, y'know.

So is it common for a reviewer for a multiformat site to not own a 360 or ps3?

Should've spent the money more wisely.

And is Simon Parkin the same Simon Parkin that was the illegitimate love child of Andy Crane and Andi Peters?

Well, John Walker's not a regular contributor - he writes mainly for PC mags (and Rock Paper Shotgun) and does the odd DS review and feature for NGamer - among other stuff, I'd wager. Wouldn't surprise me if he only owned a DS and PC. And even if he does own a 360, perhaps he's reluctant to fork out another £40 for the game when he's got a PC version which should, by rights, function just fine.

No, he's the by-all-accounts lovely and extremely clever freelancer who no-one has a bad word to say about. Talented bastard (though his wordy appraisals in the EG rundown seem a little out of place in amidst the glib jokery).

Do they not work in an office with shared consoles and stuff? I've always pictured them all sitting around together. :(

I imagine Tom, Ellie, Rob Purchese and maybe Minkley - when he's not schmoozing with Whiley, that is - do. Dan Whitehead, as far as I'm aware, is a regular contributor but may well work from home (though I might be wrong on that one; I just remember reading a review of his which talked about him sitting at home with a certain game). The rest are freelance - Keza MacDonald, Gillen, Rossignol et al.

I like the list. It convinced me to nip down to Blockbusters a couple of hours ago to get an XBLA points card so I could DL Rez HD and Braid. Both seem to be fairly special.

If my copy packs up tonight *touch wood it doesn't* I'd happily fork out for another copy, it's that damn good. I think they're going for less than £40 now. Hopefully he gets to play it soon.

But couldn't, say, Kieron Gillen cruise all up in their crib and be like "Yo, Purchese, gimme a go on Patapon, I've not got a PSP of my own" before skipping off to PC Gamer land or whoever he writes for now?

I can't let go of the hope that they all get together for bouts of Singstar and Rock Band. :(

Well Rez is (but thats nothing new)...not so sure about Braid. World of Goo is much better all round, obviously PC or Wii rather than XBLA though.

Forget it man.

This is how it is: None of The Simpsons cast hang out together, footballers don't have a kick around after training and EG writers don't even like games.

Last one may not be true.

There's a vid of Ellie and Oli Welsh playing Singstar together. And I imagine they've had one or two get-togethers.

I've played Guitar Hero with Tom Bramwell, if that's any good to you.
