This game is brilliant, the flight controls are essentially stolen from Freelancer which makes them amazing, it's a true PC game that controls very well with the keyboard and mouse. You can play in 1st, or 3rd person and there is VR support.

The gameplay itself is fairly straight forward, you have to progress from star system to system (these are randomized though), and collect credits and power ups along the way while the plot is revealed to you as you go. If you die you lose everything except the credits and are sent to the start of the game. You can then use the credits you earned to buy perks which are persistent.

The expansion pack, Encounters adds an extra ship, a number of weapons, items and consumables, as well as side quests which do a good job to break up the monotony, although there's nothing too outstanding in terms of storytelling, it's mostly go here shoot that or collect this. However I still think it's worth the price.

I managed to get to the first area of Sector 4 earlier, but when I was chasing some Outlaws I suddenly started taking loads of damage and got warnings that some of my components were overheating. Next thing I know my shields are gone and my hull points dropped from full to nothing in about 5 seconds, then I just exploded.

I have found a cheap work around to dying is to just exit if you're about to die as progress is only ever saved when you first enter a system, so if you are desperate to progress, you can try that.

I was doing quite well last night until I got attacked by a jump gate and tried to take a screen shot of the chaos, only to being up the stupid steam overlay by accident. By the time I remembered how to get rid of it, I was dead.

No idea how it performs on those systems, but it's also available on PS and XB.

I found out something interesting, the planets actually seem to be there. I thought maybe they were just a texture, but I entered a system where I was close enough to actually see the ridges on the surface, you can see them in the bottom right hand corner...

Also, this game looks absolutely amazing, seriously makes me wish I had a VR headset...

AD7, you have one don't you? How is it?

I haven't tried it in vr yet, the room I have the pc in is far too warm at the moment for that, although if it's seated it may be more tolerable. I've got a hotas too but I'm not sure anything but mouse and keyboard would be the way to go with this as it seems designed around it.

I certainly need to rebind a lot of keys as I'm grabbing at the wrong ones a fair bit in the heat of battle. I might but a few vital ones on the mouse for example.

The opening video in the first post looks good. Might give this a try for £7 odd quid, my PC should be able to run this somewhere between minimum and recommended.

Just realised this now supports HOTAS too, might have to dust it all off and get involved again

Met a few new characters on my last two runs, so they start to show up on the sector maps for interactions and progress with them.
Got to Sector 4 again and an unknown character just showed up, said "Here, have some random supplies. Bye" and left again.

This game's been sat in my Steam account forever. Last played 08/07/17. Total play time (to date): 44mins. :|

Looks like there have been a few updates since then, so perhaps it's time to reinstall and take a look. Trouble is, the game is now available on PS4 (and playable on PS4 with my HOTAS, too)... tempting. I promised myself the days of double-dipping were over. :fp:

Had a couple of games, feels really old fashioned to me, like something from 30 years ago but with modern graphics. The interface for example really has a feel of someone writing it in their bedroom.

Keep in mind, the controls are like Freelancer, but the game itself is fairly different. The story is pretty minimal as are the RPG elements, all you can really do is buy some stat upgrades for your ships, weapons and other resources disappear each time you die.

You can think of it kind of like the missions in Freelancer when you where trying to run from the different regions, like Liberty to Bretonia etc. there's lots of fighting running, and scavenging. The expansion pack adds in side quests as well, but they're still not a huge part of the overall game and can be pretty much totally ignored if you choose.

I got to sector 3 and then a boss fight happened, who I killed but then his minions finished me off.

It's very pretty though:

I tried VR earlier and almost threw up my own pelvis bone :dread: I've got quite a strong VR stomach but strawberry floating hell a cockpit game with mouse and keyboard made me feel terrible so I turned it off. It may be better with a seat and hotas (I have no such problems with Elite dangerous).

I'm in sector 6 now. :dread:

Those outlaw bombers are on another level of bastard.

Also, I didn't know this but Steam has streaming now? I went to the everspace steam page to send the link to a friend and they have a "veteran" streaming gameplay at the top of the page!
