What's your social media app opinion that gets this response?

I don't do Twitter or Facebook and have no interest in either.

What particularly pisses me off is when you reply to something, that gets dog piled and the reply to it gets liked and retweeted to hell. This is while it's still referencing you (even if you delete the original tweet to try to escape harassment, but crafty twitter users will screenshot that part out of context and repost it) while promoting whoever took umbrage with what you have said, generally by willfully misinterpreting it or picking up on some mundane detail. They then reply and mention other users that will back them up with no other perspective on the matter than that one thing you said, until what you originally said pales into insignificance. I think this is what is meant by "the ratio" where something fairly innocuous becomes a magnet for pile ons and you get "ratio'd" by people with more followers, and their followers, etc all essentially farming likes and retweets. The purpose of the exercise isn't to discuss anything, it's to seek approval and grow whatever particular bubble of "public opinion" in which that group of users resides.

This is why "I like/approve this" is so toxic in social media. It removes the onus of saying something, anything to back up your emotions.

You need to be gooseberry fool like me and not be interesting enough to be retweeted at all.

The only downer I've encountered is sometimes it'll suggest or show something that a contact had either liked or commented on, that either pisses me off or I just find annoying, so I'll just either mute the source or do the old "see less tweets from @Moggy" to sort it out.

I'm referring to the incident where I asked someone who only believes in binary sex "what about intersex people (who do exist)". I got mutilated by other people who insist on the sex binary of male/female and nothing in between.

I never really "got" twitter. Not to bash people who do use it but it just never found a place in my online life. The only social media I do use is Facebook and these days that's purely because its a convenient way to stay in touch with overseas friends.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

Go back and report everyone who did that for hate speech.

And if they have abused you more than once, put an additional report in for harassment.

Posting one's Ls means posting a tweet that is poorly received, generally because it contains an admission (or lack thereof) that you did something shitty or in bad faith.

Post one's Ws is basically the opposite, a tweet that is well received because it contains something positive, such as success in one's personal life.

Thank both

I guess I was overcomplicating things

Interesting though that replying with "W" is broadly the same as liking a tweet (as an expression of approval), but they have opposite effects on the ratio as it is perceived.

In all my time on there I've not once see W or L posted as response to anything!

You're not missing anything. Not had a Twitter or Facebook account myself for a few years. I've only connected in person with a few folk from what would have been my "friends list" since, but no one else. Not that's a bad thing of course.

Why it's not surprising @VictorMildew and @ORKN don't understand W and L 1/50
