PostExternal HDD problems

OK guys, everytime i plug in my External HDD it freezes windows explorer, it's only started recently and i havent added anything new to the hard dive for a few weeks so nothing dodgey has been added.

I can plug it in and get the *du-dun* noise you get when hardware is added, but as soon as i go to "my computer" explorer just dies on its arse, and i have to restart. Without the HDD plugged in explorer runs fine. I also have a second External HDD plugged in ( havent unplugged it for about a year) and have no similar problems with that, help me computer GR!!

EDIT: Ive tried it on a laptop as well, and same thing happens. Something is broken i guess? i suppose this now changes to how can i pull as much stuff off as possible or where is the best place to get them repaired?
