I can literally see it playing out in my head. :fp:

I'm not even going to bring myself to google it because I just know that some blog or website has almost certainly produced such a list at some point. :dread:

Wikipedia has a list of genocides by death toll, but I can't find any pop-articles. Thank God.

This is too far in my opinion, you can't just destroy private property.

Again I completely agree with their message but this kind of action just makes them look like petulant idiots.

It’s not helpful and it’s not clever, but Trinity College is hardly going to miss it. They have huge tracts of land and the money that comes with them.

Nah it's fine. No one got hurt and causing real financial loss is the most effective method of protest, plus it gets more media coverage.

I don't think it's quite as black and white "Destroying private property is going too far", it's all depending on the context and you can't really apply a catch all to something like this.

Relatively minor/insigificant Private Property damage like digging up a field owned by a college that has millions just sitting in the bank, or throwing paint on the HQ building of a multi-billion international, is I'd say a valid form of protest if those entities are contributing significantly to climate change when no people are getting hurt.

At the other end of the spectrum, something like going around and digging up the garden of someone just trying to build an extension on their 3 bedroom house in the suburbs or vandalising cars owned by everyday working people is going too far.

I guess at least they weren't blocking the bloody roads this time.

I’d normally agree that vandalising property goes too far, but it’s hard to get worked up over a Cambridge University garden.

So the message is that is fine because they have money? I would imagine Cambridge University have done more positive things for climate change than any of these idiots.

They are also blocking roads.

I find it amazing that they're still allowed to get away with that, the chaos they caused in London last year was ridiculous.

Why, in the grand scheme of things? What does it matter that a lawn was dug up?

And me, more so as I didn't know I even had a lawn.

The second part of my post explains that I’m not getting worked up over it because it’s just a lawn.

In the grand scheme of things I suppose it doesn't matter but people aren't just allowed to do what they want in the name of a half hearted protest. If it's about the environment chain yourself to an oil tanker, make some noise outside the BP head office or better yetncome up with some positive solutions that help the situation*.

*Before the "it's not their responsibility to come up with solutions" response, if they care that much they can something more constructive.

By keeping the whole climate change thing in the news they are kind of helping. Ripping up the lawn gets them press coverage a normal protest wouldn't, so while most people are condemning what they're doing at least they're talking about it and climate change by association.

Also they'd probably point out that we're destroying the planet which is a bit worse than digging up a lawn.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

At the end of the day the facts back up the methodology being used. Awareness of and support for action on the climate crisis is up massively as a result of the more high profile activity which has been happening in the last few years.
