I played F1 2019 on Game Pass, just to try my new wheel, despite not watching F1 for over 10 years, and enjoyed it so much it got me back into watching the real life stuff this season. It's not really a sim in the same way something like iRacing is, with all the assists of, you really have to think about what you're doing to avoid spinning out. You can start with a bunch of them on and then slowly turn down them down or off as you get used to things.

What kind of racing games are you used to?

I agree, it’s definitely not a full blown sim (as that’d be too good :() but it’s fun and challenging enough when you’ve got used to it and found a good level for the AI. These days the F1 games have a lot of assists to aid new players, with the idea they gradually reduce them as they get more hours with the game.

Probably a much better starting point back into racing sims rather than Assetto Corsa or the newer WRC games, or iRacing if you play on a PC.

I think the last "proper" racing game I played was Forza 2 back on the 360. Most racing games I've played have been of the arcade variety like Burnout and Motorstorm. I quite enjoyed Wreckfest recently but, again, not very realistic.

It’ll just take a bit more time to get back into the swing of it, the default setups are decent enough but after release decent setups are a google away so to start with you really can just load it up and drive, then tweak settings down the line.

F1 2020 plays fine on a pad and wheel so imagine 2021 will be the same if that makes any difference to you.

Had a weird bug hit during my race at Austin earlier, was running 8th behind the safety car, when the front runners suddenly all overtook it and were then disqualified!

I slowed down and remained behind until the restart, and this meant i inherited the lead by default.

Hope you went on to win then! My choice to wait this out before buying it looks to be a wise one with all the bugs and 3 missing tracks still.

I was carrying damage, and was passed by Raikkonen who went on to win. :fp:

Base and digital versions of this is currently 30% off on the Microsoft Xbox store, tempted but still going to wait as a fair bit of the appeal for this years is the 3 new tracks for me, hopefully once those tracks are patched in they’ll have another sale to try and get people waiting like myself to jump in.

Still haven't been able to actually update this game yet so i can access the online functions.

30GB in size was the first one i encountered when i put in the game disc for the first time, i download it bit by bit as my connection speed isn't exactly the fastest around, then once 20GB has been done, a new update is released and i then had to download 30GB again.

Then today, i got it down to just 5GB left, and lo and behold, a fresh update comes out so now i need to download 30GB AGAIN!!!

Give me a bloody chance to download at least one update ffs!

I don't know what the size of these updates is for the screen tearing is still absolute dog gooseberry fool. Could do with addressing that before tweaking Verstappens aggression value up a few 1000 pts

They might tweak driver performance again when the car performance patch comes out at some point next month, is Verstappen’s ai particularly poor? Not even surprised about the size of updates these days with how big the initial installs are, it is annoying when said updates don’t even seem to address many of the issues present though.

Codemasters seem to be heavily hinting (well, more or less saying) that Portimão will be the first track added to F1 2021, annoyingly they’re not all going to be added at once so I’m tempted to jump in at £40 now….

I don't usually pay anywhere £40 for a game these days, but someone pointed out you probably couldn't even get an F1 t-shirt for £40. It will still probably be £20 or more by the time the season ends, and for me it's worth that difference to be able to play the tracks as they come up each weekend and really get to know them before watching the races.

F1 merch is overpriced gooseberry fool too, it's all stuff that would be fine at regular prices, but they charge £300 for a jacket that you'd feel ripped off paying £100 for (I've had several McLaren reduced items that weren't even worth the heavily discounted prices).

Think I’ll take advantage of that! Get it ordered later today.

Edit, bought, near enough to half price for me, cheers for the heads up.
