I had to pay 35 just for my Alonso cap.

All the caps are £35 too.

Victor Mildew wrote:F1 merch is overpriced gooseberry fool too, it's all stuff that would be fine at regular prices, but they charge £300 for a jacket that you'd feel ripped off paying £100 for (I've had several McLaren reduced items that weren't even worth the heavily discounted prices).

The only things I mainly buy/look to buy are the team polos when they’re on sale towards the end of the season. I did make an exception for the Aston Martin team polo at the start of this year though :fp: just for them to release one with all the sponsors on a week after mine had been delivered, at least mine is mainly sponsor free though

I wore my Hamilton cap from 2012 to the Cricket this weekend, it's still in great nic. Though it feels a bit odd wearing it as it's a Vodafone cap more than it is an F1 one. The Melbourne GP cap I got from 2016 perished very quickly due to the sweat it was subjected to on the day. I still have it but it's pretty tatty. My Ferrari shirt and bag are still in decent shape for a decade old. I didn't get anything from Abu Dhabi. I wouldn't mind one of those new multicoloured Mercedes ones though.

Had the cost of F1 caps been cheaper, i might have also bought a George Russell Williams one.

F1 caps probably need some kind of cost cap.

On thing that is starting to piss me off in this is the AI cars following each other impossibly close in long trains making it impossible overtake. It’s really basic behaviour but makes the racing seem gooseberry fool and unrealistic. You’ll get cars in trains of 5+ all within half a second of the car ahead. It really is quite dumb seeing these processions race after race.

Based on what I've seen people say here and posts of Reddit the AI in particular seems to be a proper shambles in this.

I'd love to get it as it looks great and I have a race wheel that goes untouched at then moment but everything I've seen just makes me figure it will do my head in with glitches and bugs.

My copy has been dispatched, will probably play a bit of Braking point over the weekend, hoping to try it with my wheel next Monday or Tuesday and have a 50% race at least. Not looking forward to the poor sounding ai though

AI makes or breaks a racing game for me. If it's gooseberry fool to race against then I just time trial.

You do actually get good AI battles. They fight back a lot more and aren't as passive as in past games. It's just these dumb unrealistic trains that spoils it a bit.

If you're only going to ever win one race, Monaco is certainly a good F1 victory to have.

My copy of F1 2021 has just turned up anyway, hefty download incoming :toot:

Very quick first impressions,

The game looks great, I started plying it while it was still installing so could only race round Bahrain but even without full ray tracing in gameplay, the lighting looked amazing at night. I’ve got it in quality mode as my TV can’t do 120hz so may as well just keep it locked to 60fps.

I won’t be trying it with my wheel till Monday evening or Tuesday but it feels decent on a pad. Kept the AI setting the same when I’m on a pad and took Vettel’s Aston Martin from 12th to 7th and collected a fastest lap on the way. The 2021 cars definitely under steer more, but I didn’t alter the setups, just ran the middle/standard one so it might be able to be dialled out somewhat. Some of the kerbs do seem a little harsh but not overly so.

Round Bahrain I didn’t encounter any Trulli trains either :toot: in fact I was quite impressed with the AI again, they’re up for a scrap like in the 2020 game, not looking forward to some corners where they seem to be glued to e track though :fp:

I’ll be starting Braking Point once it’s finished installing, quite looking forward to it to be honest!

Edit, started Braking Point and it’s alright? Obviously focused on the drama. Car feels a bit odd once you’ve got ‘damage’, besides the point there’s no noticeable damage, just feels to have loads more under steer which just slows you down in most corners.

I’ll be starting off an F2 to F1 driver career as well (not fussed about My Team) once I’ve got Braking Point finished, although I’ll be waiting for the performance patch before starting the F1 aspect.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying it! I feel like I was overly ambitious with My Team using full length sessions. I’ve ended up just playing lots of one off races instead, usually at the track the real life race is at.

I’m planning on doing 50% race weekends when I’ve got F2 out of the way (which I’ve got set to 50% but will probably drop to 25% to speed up the progress), in driver career rather than My Team though (as I didn’t really enjoy it in F1 2020). Currently onto chapter 4 of Braking Point so I’ll get a little more done tonight, Codemasters have really gone Drive to Survive on it

That’s mainly how I spent a fair amount of my time in F1 2020 as well, couple of 25% and then a 50% race at the current Grand Prix weekend. I imagine it’ll be the same in this, although I do plan on choosing a team (Aston Martin) and sticking with them unlike in 2020 where I jumped around a bit.

The practicing starts to get a bit wearisome after a while. Though you can usually blaze through it in 10 mins if you're just out for the objectives.

Yeah it’s been the same in a lot of the F1 games, they just don’t know what else to do with FP sessions really.

Edit, up to chapter 8 of Braking Point, obviously cheesy but definitely on the right side of it, I’m enjoying it!

Decent update out for the 2021 game today, most importantly the performance patch and Portimao.
