How many hours did Braking Point take? Is Braking Point actually in the base game or is it an added extra/in the deluxe version of the game?

I passed a bit of time this afternoon doing a few races on F1 2020, mainly round Hungary as that’s where the F1 is this weekend, one dry and one wet race. The 2020 Ferrari was surprisingly competitive in the wet.

It's about 10 hours.

Yes it's in every version of the game.

Good that it’s in all the versions, looking on the digital store makes it look like it might be an extra. After today’s race I really want F1 2021  must hold off for a sale, or until I’ve finished Halo 4/5 and Skyward Sword at least

Edit, for myself the deluxe version doesn’t even seem worth it, mainly aimed at diehard My Team players.

Finished Breaking Point earlier. Decided to start giving myself my own goal of retiring Devon Butler from every race, but I think it was preventing that. Spun him into a wall at one point, then 15 seconds later he's in my mirrors again. It was a fairly enjoyable experience, but I'm eager to get into My Team mode now and start doing full experience with practice and qualification.

Just ordered a copy, so i'm fashionably late to the party.

I’m still yet to order a copy, I’m waiting for the 3 tracks to be added and a decent sale (Microsoft store currently has a whopping 10% off ).

Going by the last one, this'll be really cheap in a few months.

It'll be in a Humble Choice bundle at some point too.

It definitely will be on sale by Christmas, if not at least once before. Anything about 50% and I’ll go for it.

It's remarkable how often it rains in this.

Also despite an overall improvement in AI it's remarkable how dumb on strategy they still are. There will be a safety car and then a lap after it goes in half the field will dive into the pits. Also it's kind of frustrating having to rebalance the difficulty track by track.

It’s poor that the games have similar issues year after year, they’ve not even put out the performance patch yet have they? I really don’t see the point in even starting a career or my team season before that’s out. While I’m going to make an exception for the 2022 game and get it at launch, other years there just isn’t any point really  May as well just play the previous one till the major issues are patched out. Hopefully they balance the AI as well rather than having to tweak the performance level of them from track to track.

How is the rain in this anyway? In the 2020 game it never felt right for the player, it could be raining a fair bit yet it didn’t feel ready for intermediate/wet tyres yet you had no performance on the slicks either. Obviously the changeover time should be tricky but it just felt like for a lap or two neither tyre was actually right for the conditions.

It feels pretty good to me. It has to be raining quite a lot or for quite a while for you to change over, but it's pretty immediately obvious when you need to. Driving on Inters or Full Wets seems pretty simple too.

Okay, so done a couple of races on my team so far, have adjusted the AI cars so that they provide a decent challenge, and thus far have managed a 10th and 9th from the first two rounds.

My team mate is Pedro Piquet, and my team is called Minardi (and i've created a rather nifty black/white/yellow livery).

Minardi you say? Fernando Alonso is surely your main target in the driver market then! Minardi and Alonso 2023 WDC and WCC :datass:

How quick is the developmental in this? Not that I played My Team too much in 2020 but recall reading it didn’t take long to quickly get to the sharp end of the grid?

Behold my Minardi!

I tried to get it as close to the early 90's colour scheme as possible with the available options.

I find it's more to do with the difficulty setting of the AI cars rather than how the team develops, it's certainly my favourite game mode though.

Performance patch releasing in October, the performance patch itself is ready but needs testing with the AI, probably making sure the speed for them through high speed corners is in line with the players. Probably less reason to get the game until this has landed now then, still waiting for a sale either way

Would this be a good game for someone who knows nothing about F1 but has an itch to play a racing sim for the first time in a long time?

I wouldn't say F1 is the best type of racer for someone to use to get back into things because of how fast and technical it is. That said these games have a lot of options to make it more accessible and it does allow you to switch them off one by one. Plus Breaking Point is a great introduction into the drama and excitement of racing without the faff of car setup and practicing.
