I built this mega mansion by a steel-mining unit in the Forest. The excavator - and water - are accessible within a little area under the roofed build just in front of the mansion.

My new camp out on the Ash Heap may look grimy but it's cosy inside.

Love the gates - looks great!

Ever considered making a base that is more than just the one building?

Thanks, Orange! Yeah, the gates (plus fencing and the building panels and roofs) were new items launched last week as Halloween items. The gates don't automatically fit onto those front building blocks but I placed them *just* in front and they look pretty nice :-).

I haven't before; but you've made me think about it, man! I tend to create smaller, compact buildings 'cos I like to pack it out with stuff and there is the build budget to consider. But... maybe I could make two smaller buildings. I will look into this for my next build!

One of the things I like about Fallout 4's settlements are that you have multiple people living there and often a decent budget so you can make multiple houses and a defensive wall around the perimeter and what have you.

The budget is definitely something to contend with in 76 but it could be interesting to mix things up!

Every time I look in here to see your builds it makes me want to play again. I just know I will get frustrated at having missed lots of cool limited time objects though or the idea of paying for more when I bought the game full price on release! So I will settle for vicarious appreciation :)

I have not played much of Fallout 4 and at the moment I'm thinking that it - or Fallout 3 - may be a game that I'd like to get into next. Will have a think!

Yeah... there has been a lot of stuff released since you last played, Orange. You can get some stuff from purchasing it in the Atomic Shop (which I have done quite a bit of :shifty: ) and other items from the Scoreboard - making progress and completing daily missions (which I barely do!). There are sometimes cool things on the Scoreboard and I am still gutted that I couldn't get the "glass walls" building set as I'm not good/powerful enough to complete all the requirements. That set looks so good and I'd love to include it in my camp builds!

I'm sure that if you were to get back into the game you'd quickly gather a ton of items and plans, dude - much faster than I would :-).

Orange, man, your suggestion set me off on a mission! I'm in the midst of building a camp in the Forest area... and it's getting hot in here! I hope to have it finished either tonight or tomorrow :toot: .

Orange, your suggestion inspired me to have a go at a two-building camp and I enjoyed constructing this :-). I'm mining copper in the Forest. Thanks for the idea!

That looks great! Love the way you have the fenced in mining area and the second shack at the entrance fits really well. Looks like an actual place in the game world!

Thanks, man  :toot: . It did take me a long time to get the buildings and fencing set out just right; I was pleased with how this one turned out.

I picked up a few new things from the Atomic Shop this week so I'm already planning my next build :-).

Happy birthday, F76! :toot: . I think I'm at around 1,300 hours now; not many games have captured my imagination like this has. I hope to be playing building for many more years  .

Mental it's been that long, I remember the game coming out like it was yesterday. I suppose we can thank covid for 2 years vanishing without trace.

Yeah, three years... crazy!

Bethesda recently said that eleven million (11 million!) players have tried the game :o . Of course, that doesn't mean they're all playing now and, undoubtedly, many probably played it for two minutes via Game Pass... but it's still pretty impressive.

There are many clunky aspects, the fighting remains awkward and there are still bugs but, for me, a few aspects stand out:

> The large gameworld with varied environments
> The excellent lighting and weather systems
> The creativity of camp building

These three factors combined make it a kinda "dream" game for my tastes. I'm excited for more Fallout games* in the future but I hope that this online, openworld multiplayer experience continues alongside the single-player experiences.

* Except they'll be Xbox-only so I'm screwed on PlayStation etc :x :lol: .

I've said before, that I think the idea of a Fallout MMO can work. I know there were plenty of arguments around release saying that it just was a horrible fit, given the fact that it's always been a single player RPG before then.

But I think it actually works as a concept.

The awkward fit comes from trying to make it an MMO using the Fallout 4/Skyrim engine. Firstly, its ancient in and of itself but also that it isn't the greatest for gunplay and combat.

The combat itself just doesn't work and is the biggest problem with the game now that a lot of the other issues have been addressed. Just imagine how good it could be if it had the combat of something like destiny.

The game is probably more MMO-like now with NPC quest givers and progressively more events being added and people playing in post-game, but I hardly ever played it as an MMO across my 300+ hours.

As for combat the tried-and-tested sniper/shotgun Fallout combo is still good here for the most part, and the variety of enemies makes it better than 3/NV/4. Although 4 probably has the best actual shooting (still not particularly good) and is the worst game of the lot!

76 as it launched was all about exploration of an actually post-apocalyptic wasteland - the enemies are there to support the world, not the other way around, I think? The large and varied map that jawa highlights leans into that as well as providing a great canvas for camp building.

I travelled a little further west in the Ash Heap and setup camp at Murgle's. Folk can stop by for a coffee and shake off the dirt.

It's lovely being home under the stars out in the Toxic Valley.
