Hee! I was - as everyone knows! - a fan right from the off and some of the changes have been counter to my own personal preferences (i.e. levelling of enemies to match the player across the entire gameworld... grr!) but it's good to hear that some folk have given it a go and are enjoying aspects of it.

The first big game update of 2021 arrives later today; maintenance will commence at 15:00 (UK) and may run for a few hours.

Most of the key changes centre around quality of life enhancements for inventory management; I'm particularly keen to check out the improved reporting of stacked item weight. Check out this vid for more details:

I haven't played the game much over the past few months but I'll be loading it up tomorrow evening to see how these changes impact gameplay.

Excellent. I was enjoying this enough to make it my exclusive game (rather than just play between games), so after I finish fennix rising I'll be going back.

I've had a quick go, just to check out the update.

I like it! The stacked weight check is so useful and the expanded storage space is very welcome. It feels like time to get into this again!

I noticed that I've gone past the 760 hour play mark, too. I still feel pretty much like a beginner  .

We're gonna be able to have multiple CAMPs :o :toot: .

Bethesda wrote:It can be tough to decide between building a brand-new home or sticking with your current C.A.M.P. creation, because you can only have one at a time. Going forward, you won’t have to choose whether to open a Wasteland B&B, fortify a Free States outpost, or run your own Red Rocket Station—Instead, C.A.M.P. Slots will help you do it all. Your characters will be able to build multiple different C.A.M.P.s, each with its own location, build budget, custom name, and even a unique map icon. While you will only be able to have one active C.A.M.P. at a time, you can easily switch among them using a new C.A.M.P. Builds widget or your C.A.M.P. icons on the map.

Further, managing the items you want to sell has never been easier, because your Vending Machines will now feature a large pool of item slots that are shared for every instance, across all your C.A.M.P.s. Display Cases will be separate per C.A.M.P., allowing you to showcase different items at each one. Along with these changes, we’re also working to enable Displays in Shelters, so that you have even more opportunities to show off your loot. We’re still implementing some of this Vending and Display functionality, so these changes may arrive after the PTS has already begun.

This is a terrific move; it's always a shame to tear down a CAMP that you spent a long time building 'cos you would like to move elsewhere.

Oh! And perk card loadouts are gonna be introduced, too :-). All this and more is gonna be available on the PC PTS (Public Test Server) next Friday, 5 February. Provided it all goes smoothly, the updates should then be introduced into the game on all formats soon after. Click here to see the full details on all of the planned updates.

I had a lot of fun building my new camp. I went with my favourite compact styling as this enables you to pack out on detail.

I've moved camp... over to the Toxic Wasteland area! I've only built a camp there once before but I've decided to return as the lighting and atmosphere are so different to that of the Forest area.

I've picked a spot that - so far! - seems reasonably secure. It's pretty close to the railway station and I've managed to fit four large water purifiers in... it's a really neat spot :-). The basic shell is complete and now I can add in all of the workbenches and decorate.

"I'm excited!" about this. Will take a few snapshots when complete.

Dang it, that location wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped!

It was awesome in so far as the camp looked great and I had four large purifiers running... but there were lots of radtoads and mirelurks nearby; all level 44 due to level-scaling. Most importantly, though, the player spawn point was lousy - often placing the player in the toxic water nearby.

So... time to move again. Will probably head back to the Forest area.

How do the multiple camps work then Jawa - can you leave that camp as it is but build another?

The multiple camp functionality is only in testing at the moment, Orange; I believe it is due to be implemented in live during the next big game update (date TBC). It sounds pretty neat; you can only have one camp appear in the gameworld at any one time, but you can switch between them as desired.

It's a cool idea as building a detailed camp can take many hours :-).

I've finished my latest camp! Really enjoyed making this one; it's back in the Forest area at my current favourite location and I went for a modern design (straight lines; double-sided plain walls, steel posts for windows) and I was pleased with how the entrance area worked out. It looks dense, cosy and welcoming. I tried hard with the lighting by using lights to brighten up certain areas and to highlight some of the colours of the furnishings. This'll be home for a little while!

"A little while" turned out to be one day.

I have hit the road and am looking out for a new spot. Gonna make my new camp grungy and ramshackle; it'll be a different style to my usual stuff.

I'm really looking forward to getting back in to this once I've finished Fennix Rising. My current camp (Which is the most perfunctory basic shack with benches in it) is placed by the river near the nuka cola factory in the south west. I used to have it further up the river by the forest but I found many other players did the same making it a pain to get on a server sometimes.

Hey, Ad, I'm in the midst of building a new camp with that kind of approach! For the past year or so I've built "luxurious" camps and, whilst they are cool and fun, they don't necessarily always fit in with the post-apocalypse setting. So, yeah, I'm going back to basics; wood, metal and a "rough" appearance. It's actually quite a challenge for me 'cos I keep trying to smarten things up :fp:  .

Ah! The cola factory! That's a nice location. The factory can be tough to get through now that enemy level scaling exists (grumble, moan etc). Looking forward to seeing a few snaps when you return :-).

Decided to cave in and ordered it from Gamecollection for £4 odd, as I had a few quid off voucher.

Wow the Chinese Stealth Armor is amazing! Rocking a 3 star Fixer with a stealth critical snipey build, and going invisible on sneak with the stealth Armor is so much fun.

Sounds like you picked it up for a great price, ibdw!

You have some excellent gear, Hulohot! I've still got pretty basic weaponry and armour.

I started building my "old scavenger shack" camp in the Forest area... then went over to the Toxic Valley and started it again there... before getting annoyed by the camp's spawning in point and returning to the Forest spot. Re-building my new design again now; at least I'm getting used to what goes where now!

I may be understanding you wrong, but are you starting from scratch when you move? I know when I move mine, the main structure and contents are one lump, then and individual items like a fire have to be placed separately.

Yeah, each time I move camp I start building from scratch. You can sometimes move your old camp to your chosen new location, but it depends on how rough the ground is; until recently you could hardly ever re-place your camp again, but it has improved slightly now.

I like to start fresh as you can try to take advantage of features of the new location. The floor blocks are crucial; I try to get them lined up exactly (for example, parallel to a mineral extractor machine in my current location). It takes time to start new each time but I enjoy it :-).

There are a couple of known building bugs at the moment; you can't place steel poles onto bases (but there is a workaround through fixing them to a roof piece instead) and the defences (fence items) can only be affixed to base floors, not upper floors i.e. no balconys at the moment (you can work around this by attaching the fencing to a roof panel and then removing the roof and replacing it with a floor; but this doesn't work for the smaller floor pieces). Both are due to be fixed in the next couple of updates.
