Another great / annoying session.

I've got to get something, which involves going back to the same area (vault tec university) again. Of course, all the enemies have respawend including the high level assaultron, which wrecks me. After a few deaths and using all my health items, I finally kill it. Go back to the main mission giver, and surprise surprise I'm then given another mission to go off and get 3 parts from 3 different places, all of which ive been to before with other missions, so it's well trodden ground but with all the enemies back. What's guarding the thing I need? Yes, another high level assaultron :simper: More death. Finally get the item through stealth but die to the assaultron, but all my loot is right at it's feet, so I have to go and get a stealthboy, come back and get it.

Just as this finishes, yet another nuke is launched by a player. This happens many times during a session, but this time an event starts, and I decided to fast travel to it and join (it lets you do this even if you haven't been to that area yet). Get there and there's about 20 players in power armour fighting what looks to be a dragon lifted straight from Skyrim. Helped take it down, got some new stuff, all very good. Except I'm now massively overencumbered and stuck in the middle of a stupidly dangerous area, and the stuff I've got is too good to drop. It'll take me hours to wall back without dying :fp:

I hit level 50 yesterday evening, witnessed a nuke going off and fought a big beasties with about 15 other players.

With the quests seeming never actually ending (get this, give this, thanks now go get 3 more of this and then talk to 5 people and get 3 things for each of them LOL) I think it's a good point to leave this for now.

Ha! Yeah, the missions are very much MMO-styled; you see similar objectives and re-visit locations. It's not to everyone's taste.

Oh yes! When a nuke hits you then get scorch beasts and other big enemies, and folk team up to battle them and try to gain legendary rewards (good gear and guns). You need powerful weapons to do so; albeit some players have such weaponry that they can take down the giants in relatively few hits. I occasionally join and, whilst my puny weapons barely scratch the beasts, it's still fun. If you do damage then you gain rewards; sometimes quite good ones. It's best to make sure that you have plenty of clear inventory space before joining such a battle :-).

Congrats, man - you have done well in a relatively short period of time!

Yeah, as mentioned above, the missions are MMO-styled in structure and the "repeating play" style doesn't suit all tastes. The new Steel Reign update launches next Wednesday, 7 July - for free - so there will be more storyline to play if you wanted to. Or, during 2022 the "expeditions" launch - separate areas to visit and battle through -and the first one will be The Pitt... Pittsburgh from Fallout 3!

Oh, and, I'm still building camps;I'll have pics of my new one in the Ash Heap later today :-).

I think I managed to do the vast majority of the missions that blatantly aren’t the MMO-style ones, bar Officer on Deck, and the Overseer logs (which aren’t marked on the world map) so I left the game alone, but the next expansion is bringing an end to the current storyline about the BoS. Might go back to it then.

I'm following the settlers quest line, which is to break in to a vault. It feels like I'm quite far along it, but OH MY GOD when you go to turn a quest in and the character says you need to go back to somewhere you've already been to get something :dread:

Go to the robco factory! Again. And bring me mcguffin X! I'll then say I need to meet you somehwere else, so go there and I'll then tell you to go and pick up another mcguffin!

Oh and Jawa, yes I made some crap contribution to the fight by taking about a pixel of health off it :datass:

The Steel Reign update is arriving tomorrow, 7 July. It delivers the ending for the Brotherhood of Steel storyline and the Season 5 scoreboard alongside - for higher level players! - legendary item crafting and power armour.

The update starts at 15:00 UK and this usually means some downtime for a few hours.

The latest game update is processing now, with huge patch notes available here.

My favourite:
You can unlock an additional three C.A.M.P. Slots for a total of five Slots.
C.A.M.P. Slots are priced at 1000 Atoms per unlock.

...moar CAMPs! :toot: .

These updates sound pretty good. I've had more than my money's worth already, so when I go back to it at some point I'll have a full brotherhood of steel quest line to do.

Out September.

WHAT IS FALLOUT WORLDS?
With Fallout Worlds, your imagination is the limit when under the sky of your own personal Appalachia. Utilizing a wide list of customizable settings, players can construct C.A.M.P.s in previously restricted areas or even remove the need for electricity to establish a builder’s paradise. Love Fallout 76’s survival mechanics? You can double down on braving Appalachia’s untamed wilds by changing the PVP rules and difficulty settings. And those are but two examples of what’s possible in Fallout Worlds.

Combine unlimited combat AP and infinite ammo to become a mighty wasteland warrior, configure creature spawns for serious big game hunting, control weather effects such as fog, nuclear radiation, or even Quantum Storms, turn on absurd jumping heights (just remember to turn off fall damage), enable ragdoll physics, change the height limit on settlements...all this and more are yours to play and experiment with as you see fit.

And yes, this list of customization options will continue to expand!

PUBLIC WORLDS FOR ALL!
Public Worlds are a rotating series of Fallout Worlds experiences available to all players. Hand-crafted by the team at Bethesda Game Studios with input from the Fallout 76 community, each Public World uses a different combination of Fallout Worlds’ settings to bring you a unique play experience.

This offers everyone in Fallout 76 the opportunity to see for themselves what’s possible in Fallout Worlds, as well as inspiration for their own creations with Custom Worlds.

TAKE FALLOUT WORLDS INTO YOUR HANDS WITH CUSTOM WORLDS
Custom Worlds completely evolves the personalization of Fallout 76’s existing private servers, granting active Fallout 1st members full access to Fallout Worlds’ settings and features to build their own personalized Appalachias.

While players can experiment like a mad scientist to their heart’s content solo, Custom Worlds is also a blast to share with others! Invite your friends and teammates to your Custom World and they can join in on the fun even without a Fallout 1st membership.

WE’RE ONLY GETTING STARTED
We’re committed to bringing even more customizable options and ways to play to Fallout Worlds with eyes on the feedback of the Fallout 76 community. Our goal is giving players the ability to transform Fallout 76 into, as the name implies, their very own world.

Get your first taste of Fallout Worlds when the feature hits the Public Test Servers today. For players seeking out more information, we will have more details to share regarding Fallout Worlds made available at a later date. Whether you’re craving your own immersive roleplaying server, impressive personal fortress, wacky platforming level or whatever else your imagination conjures, we can’t wait to see what the Fallout 76 community brings to Fallout Worlds.

Like we said, this is just the beginning.

Fallout Worlds is intriguing; the ability to customise so many settings in the gameworld could be really fun. It's a nice touch that, although you need to have Fallout 1st to create a world, you can invite anyone to play in it (including non-subscriber players).

Looking forward to hearing more about this as players try it out in the PC test environment!

The free camp creation sounds like a game I would buy, but I'm unlikely to play it on a subscription model, and I'm guessing you won't just get free access to all of the camp building objects that have been sold as dlc or unlocked in game.

Yeah, for me the game requires that subscription; it's pretty much like other MMOs in that respect. My current annual sub runs out in October. I hope to continue it; this year I reckon at least 70% of my gaming has been on F76. A key factor will be if I move to a new system; I'd probably choose PS5 and so I could continue my game but the Bethesda/Xbox thing is a worry.

One of the things I most like about F76 is the community. On Twitter I follow lots of folk who post about F76 and it's great seeing their screenshots, hearing their thoughts and chatting about the game.

Alas, as with many communities there are a small minority of people who go out of their way to cause hassle. I really like the work of content creator AquaNova Play; she creates some amazing camps and posts to YouTube and Twitter. Aqua has said that she has received abusive messages, dislikes and even had death threat messages ( :( :fp: ) because of the camps she has made. I can't imagine how someone can think that sending a death threat is a reasonable response to seeing a F76 camp video on YouTube.

I wanted to just highlight the issue here as it would be wrong to ignore it. But you gotta keep in mind that those idiots are a tiny minority; the bulk of folk are decent and give constructive feedback. We move on!

- - - - - - - - - -

I'm really enjoying the new ability to build multiple camps. All players get two camp slots and you can purchase others if you wish to. I now have one camp in the Forest area just outside Morgantown, one in the Ash Heap area and I'm currently building a new camp in the Toxic Valley area.

It's great as building and decorating a camp can take many hours; it's nice not having to tear it all down in order to build a fresh camp elsewhere! My camps are all currently in the lore-friendly "scavenger" style. I did get into the modern (plain painted walls) approach at one time but, right now, I'm enjoying the realistic, rougher look.

It's happened!

Maybe the toughest achievement to earn in the game has been gained by a player.

"Play Fallout 76 for 7600 hours"!

twitter.com/smilyspiky66_6/status/1419592465649070084

Now, the game launched back on 14 November 2018, meaning that roughly 23, 629 hours have since passed; 985 days. To gain the achievement suggests that the person must have played for nearly eight hours every day. Wow!

I'll check later but I think I've "only" played for around 1,100 hours. What a slacker.

I traveled over to the Toxic Valley and created a new camp. The colours can be super in this dust-filled area; both night and day.
