It's going to be interesting to see the Digital Foundry comparisons between this and next gen versions.
I wonder if they'll bother with any specific next gen only features.
Maybe sections with more AI opponents or just the standard faster loading and super solid fps.

Why are people this negative, there is nothing egregious about the series? At the very least it's a good first person shooter.

It's weird how positive everyone is about the new Assassin's Creed games when they essentially turned that series into Far Cry.

Origins/Odyssey are nothing like Syndicate/Unity. AC got an actual reboot, FC peaked with 2/3.

There’s been 4 FC games since FC3 that all play the same.

Origins/Odyssey are structurally the same as Far Cry 3 is what I mean. Arguably they're less interesting than the old Assassin's Creed games as they're now just RPG lite.

I mean they're first person shooters, how differently can they play? The Far Cry games play really well, they need to do more within the open world. If they could add some actual characters and writing to their world's they would be improved immeasurably. I mean that is essentially what sets The Witcher 3 apart.

This thread nearly made me pick up Far Cry 4 as I loved Far Cry 3 and haven't played one since. I saw it was £8 or so on the PS store but I begrudge paying that for it as I just expect it to be pop up on PS+ the following month knowing my luck.

I've got Far Cry Blood Dragon to play through at some point on Steam so maybe i'll do that instead while I wait for FC4 to inevitably be given away to me.

I think only 2 or 3 Ubisoft games have EVER been made ‘free’ by either PlayStation or Xbox.
Basically, get it bought, tight. It’s great.

I played Far Cry 4 and loved it, I played 5 and couldn't be bothered to finish. It was like 4 but worse. I don't know about 1-3 but the issue I had with 4 and 5 is that it never actually feels like there's a brutal, oppressive totalitarian regime that I'm fighting. You kill hundreds and hundreds of mooks without any real consequence; go here, kill these guys, +40 resistance points! Another 160 resistance points and it'll force a boss fight and then this area is free 'cos brutal dictators are known for accepting their losses. After the fight, the Big Bad will call me on the radio and admonish me for killing a bunch of his guys just like the last time the exact same thing happened.

How about letting me feel like I'm actually participating in a revolution against a brutal dictator rather than making me feel like I'm nothing more than a hired Terminator-like force that suddenly appears to help free the natives via machine gun? How about implementing gameplay mechanics that actually fit with the games core premise? It's just shooting, the only way to progress through these games is shooting. Far Cry 5 was set in a fictional county in Montana. Montana is the 48th most dense state, about 7 people/sqm. Why is there an endless line of bad guys for me to shoot? Because there is no other gameplay. Drive around, see bad guys, kill bad guys. The Resistance needs to take control of a power plant/wheat fields/an airport? Send me in, I'll just kill them all.

Things this game will have:

- Secret ending! During the opening when you meet the Big Bad, there'll be a bit where if you don't do what the game is telling you to do, the game will end.
- A bow, a crossbow, a parachute and a wingsuit.
- Shrines of some sort all over the map that need to be destroyed.
- Bases containing between 7-9 guards and you have to kill all the guards.
- Enemies that immediately know who you are and attack on sight.
- Inescapable interactions with the Big Bad that lead strawberry floating nowhere and are pointless.
- Some bullshit choice near the end of the game that means nothing.
- A large map almost completely devoid of anything interesting.

How about being able to take a more high-level overview of the revolution? You control the movements of your resistance fighters, you're responsible for where they're placed; if you take a town but then fail to adequately protect it then you'll quickly lose it. Recruiting more people to your cause gives you more manpower to defend the regions you've taken. How about being able to recruit members of the enemy militia who can act as insiders. How about having to follow an enemy captain through the city streets late at night because the resistance has heard he's corrupt and you need leverage over him or something, I don't know.

Far Cry 6 is going to be so completely irrelevant, I almost can't believe they're doing it again.

For me I do enjoy the Far Cry series, but they're about as open world 101 as they come, good dumb, blow crap up fun. But bar Primal the series hasn't really changed much from 3 and I really do hope they change things up quite a bit for the 6th entry. Screen shots look nice, hopefully some gameplay will soon pop up.

They can be different in terms of not being attacked by an enemy or animal every 5 minutes, leaning on the same trope's over and over (you get kidnapped and have to escape 4 strawberry floating times in FC5 - I mean get strawberry floated). Are you seriously contending that AC Syndicate and Unity are better than Origins and Odyssey? I mean jesus.

I'm not happy that Valhalla is copying the same template either btw but a real reboot for FC series would be to forget all this nonsense of big personalities shaping their main enemy, the weird politics of it all and endless repetitive fights with pyscho wild life and infinite enemies roaming about in jeeps, its jaded beyond belief. The Duma Engine is stunning, imagine if they toned down all the nonsense and created something grittier, earthier, something that was really hard...this will look spectacular but it's going to be essentially a reskin.

Unnecessarily extravagant special edition - check. I wonder how many there will be with overlapping/alternative contents that require a spreadsheet to understand. Also is it bad that it feels like that dog is pandering to the "heckin pupperino" internet meme crowd a bit.

I haven't played those AC games but I can understand why people prefer the older AC games even though they don't play as well. Yeah the kidnapping stuff was really stupid, once fair enough but four times was excessive.

I can't really disagree with that, I do enjoy the FC games but it's a shame they don't strive for something more.

Far Cry 5 is currently £6 on PSN. Is it worth it for someone who thought 3 was alright but skipped 4 after becoming bored with the shopping list nature of Ubisoft's games?

I would say no if you're not into Ubisoft's open world games.

Because it's a first person shooter? Sounds like you want a completely different genre of game, and people get PISSED when series change genres. Ask Rare.
