I’ve also picked it up as Powerwash Simulator seems to have been something of a gateway drug to the “pleasantly satisfying mundane task and economy sim” genre. I booted up FS19 from gamepass and just from the tutorial decided that This Is My gooseberry fool and preordered the new one.

So I don’t know what’s new in this, but I took the new tutorial for a spin for 10 mins before I can properly start it this evening. It looks a lot nicer, but I’m not sure about having to pick a mode to access the tutorial. For returning fans and the devs, they probably didn’t realise the issue but I don’t even know which difficulty to play it on. The idea of building up from nothing is a big part of the appeal, but they have that down as the hardest way to play it. I’m less interested in jumping into a prefab farm, but that’s the beginner’s mode. Also don’t know how much I’ll be using the AI. Super useful to get to the macro layer, but I’m here for the micro.

The thing to remember is that economic difficulty (and a load of gameplay settings) can be toggled from within the game, so while you might choose the hardest difficulty to be able to build up from nothing, you can then knock it down again to have fairer prices.

Well, I’ve started. And gone about it in the least efficient way. Bought a plot of land, didn’t realise they come with crops already on them, saw it was cotton, went and bought a ton of expensive cotton machinery. That was a good two thirds of my starting million gone.

Then I realised it’s August and cotton isn’t ready til October so I quickly bought the field next to it that had harvest ready wheat, and all the cheapest equipment to gather it. Harvested the whole field and stuck it in the silo beside it (I figure wheat prices will rise when it’s out of season?). So that left me with 25k remaining and a field full of loose straw. Bought a baler with the rest of my money and I must have got the wrong one because it won’t work.

Only now that I’m broke I realise I should have been leasing the equipment really, or doing the contracts I’ve just realised exist, but whatever, building myself up from nothing is the appeal.

A very chaotic start, it seems. Yeah, if you're not interested in the special crops, leasing is the way to go. I had to get rid of a field of potatoes, so just leased that huge sucker and then returned it after harvesting the field, and now I'm never touching potatoes again. I also spent about an hour plowing a field only to then concrete over it so I had space for a house and equipment.

Such a great time I've been having with it.

Will do. I’ll also add some screenshots with future updates because it’s actually a really good looking game when it’s all maxed out.

Oh, another thing I forgot to mention, I didn’t realise you could hitch harvester heads from the side so in transporting it from the shop to the field I had it fully attached to the front, ready to harvest at full width. If pedestrian collisions were on I’d have made world news and my short journey to get my stuff home would be referred to as the Erlengrat Massacre forevermore.

Well, getting silage from wrapping bales is no longer an instant process as of this game. Wish I'd have tested that beforehand so I could have got everything but the straw into the TMR wagon instead of skipping three whole days while waiting for it to ferment. Still got those cows fed the Total Mixed Ration in the end.

As you've possibly seen from the Game Pass thread, the new game is on the service, with FS19 being removed from it at the end of the month. But if you do want that more classic style of game, Giants are doing a rerelease featuring all the DLC in the package soon. Will probably be a cheap way to get it and all that extra content.

If I'm remembering correctly, Rula, I think you felt that FS19 was the best version? Or, at least the most beginner-friendly? I wonder if FS19 could also be released in a complete edition for other formats - that'd be neat.

Incidentally, how're you getting on with FS22? Has it been as enjoyable as past versions, dude?

Yeah, FS19 is the most beginner-friendly of the games. The changes to FS22 make it a closer to realistic experience with no way of reverting to the classic format (except maybe through mods).

As for how I'm getting on with FS22, I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm working toward getting a new piece of land in order to expand my operations. I'll need to get some more screenshots posted soon. Been a while since I last did that.

Nice one! Yeah, it'd be cool to see some shots of your farm.

Finally got round to downloading this on Gamepass! Hoping to give it a go with a few friends, since it's one of the few games that actually lets more than four people play together :slol: Played through the tutorial section, expecting it'd tell me a bit more detail about whether there's really any difference or need to get different sized tractors, or how to be sure the tool you're looking at is compatible with your vehicle, but it literally just tells you how to sow a field  Thanks.

Thankfully their online tutorials are a lot more in depth. Genuinely had no idea that the tools had horsepower requirements, so your tractor needed to be powerful enough to run them! Noticed that there was a "combinations" option available for certain tools in the store, too, which seems to show you other equipment you need to go along with whatever you're buying! Not sure if that's a new addition or just something I never noticed in 19, but it's a big help.

Hoping to have a bit more of a go with it tonight, but I'm already feeling more clued up about what to do than I was with the previous game! :toot:

Big fan of the crossplay, too. And the up-to-16-player games if you're hosting on PC/a private server, although it's a bit sad that the console player limit isn't slightly higher. Glad I decided to upgrade my desktop!

I kinda wish it had visual vehicle damage, though  First thing I did was drive my pickup truck into the train, and it just pushes you out of the way!

The store should show those horsepower requirements as part of the information it displays on the bottom of the screen. I do admit the tutorial could do more to make things clearer for new players, though. The combinations tab of the store is new, which does go some way to help new players know what they need for the different parts of farming, but there's still so much a new player will only discover through trial and error. If you stick with it, it's a great series to be invested in.

Hope you have fun with those friends when you get to joining them.
