PostFarming Simulator Series | FS23 LAUNCH!
by DarkRula » Thu Aug 19, 2021 3:43 pm

Oh, I do love that trailer.

Anyway, with the new game coming soon, I felt it was the right time to get a thread up regarding the series - especially when the first gameplay trailer is set to arrive during Gamescom.

This thread isn't just about the new game, however, as it is a hub for all the games in the series. Whether that be the latest of FS19, the only Switch version of the game that matters (only joking here, since the mobile entries are still worthwhile games), or even going back to the series origins. Share stories and gameplay of your experiences with the series here. And if you do want to make a start gaining experiences of the series - a reminder that FS19 is on Game Pass so you can try it out on Xbox One, PC, and the Cloud. Each game can also be bought for less than £20 on Steam should you wish to buy.

The new game of Farming Simulator 22 has now launched, bringing two new maps in Elmcreek and Haut-Beyleron, and returning map Erlengrat. New machines, new mechanics, and looking a lot prettier than the series has looked before.

And just as a heads-up, I'll more than likely be streaming more of FS19 tonight. Just chilling and chatting to anyone who comes along.

I know that you're a big admirer of the Farming Simulator series, Rula, and I recall seeing you stream some gameplay (although I missed last night's show!). It's a series that I'd not really considered before but it seems to have a pretty large - and growing - fan base. The ability to setup your own farm and decide what goes where sounds neat.

Looking forward to hearing more, dude - especially your thoughts on the upcoming '22 game!

I'll definitely have thoughts on the new game when it releases.

As for last night, I've got a new way to harvest that feels more efficent than just going up and down in strips. I'd seen it recently on the Farming Sim subreddit of real farmers using such a method, and it makes things a lot easier when it comes to harvesting. I call it the half-box method, 'cus I really don't know if it's got a proper name. You work from the outside corner into an inside corner, so you'd be running across the north and east edges of the field to shrink the remaining crop into the south-west corner. If... that makes sense.

Like this?

How is it better? Fewer 180-degree turns?

That's exactly it, yes. Fewer 180-degree turns means less time spent not harvesting. It might not seem like much, but it definitely felt as though I was getting through the field faster. I wouldn't know for sure until I test it out on the field that takes me over two hours to harvest with a wider header than I used last night.

Good tip. I could probably make use of that when I get round to buying Lawn Mowing Simulator.

Would it not be better to keep on going around the edge and then move in a line in a spiral shape pattern?

Three reasons:
The machinery wouldn’t wear evenly.
You’d get dizzy.
You’d end up trapped in the middle.

I mean... with Farming Simulator, you could definitely do whatever you wanted. I've certainly done the circular method on the Switch version when helping other farmers, but when you bring needing to load into a trailer into things, it's definitely easier to work to a corner to reduce the time going between trailer and field.

Hope you have a good time with it.

New trailer showing off a bit of one of the maps and some of the things we'll be doing in the game. It looks great. Really can't wait to start getting to grips with all these new things.

There's also more details about that new map - inspired by the French countryside, and the season pass by heading to this article from the Farming Simulator website, which provides links to the separate articles about those two things.

I've been watching Clarkson's Farm on Amazon and I can see how this game would scratch a very particular gaming itch

Well, from what I've seen elsewhere, Clarkson's Farm definitely seems to have inspired a few streamers and other content creators to give it a go.

More news of FS22 reveals crossplay is a thing for the newest game, with servers of up to 16 players. If people are interested, maybe we could get a multiplayer operation going. What's more interesting to me is the screenshots that show off the entirety of one of the maps and the fact we'll be buying plots of land once again to expand our operations. As well as the fact they've teased a lot more player customisation than what we've previously seen from one of these games.

In the run up to the release of the game, we're seeing the places we'll be farming on in a bit more detail. The first is Elmcreek - the Midwestern US map. While farming is all we'll be doing, I do like the fact there's places we can only get on foot - such as that baseball stadium. If only there was a way to watch a match play out.

Do you het to decide for yourself what sort of farm you'll be running? As in, do you choose the crop type or industry you'll be supplying?

If you just want to focus on one type of crop, you can do that. If you just want to focus on animals, you can do that. The choice of how you're making money is yours to make. You have a lot of freedom with what to do once within the world.

And the game is now live! It has launched!

And I'll be getting to it later on. It'll be fun to get exploring those new maps and see what the new mechanics do for the gameplay loop.
