Favourite Star Trek series? :shifty:

So I used to watch Star Trek as a kid and had a few toys (including an awesome foot-long shuttle model). I seem to remember favouring Deep Space Nine, despit it probably being the least popular series. Now that I've got Sky I've tried to rekindle my youth and have begun watching DS9 again and I'm enjoying it.

It's quite different to other Start Trek series; it seems more about the politics and relationships between species, with their differing agendas and characteristics. The main characters are also quite interesting and are quite a likeable bunch. Quark as the barman in particular is an interesting character and quite funny at times with his insatiable greed.

I imagine The Next Generation is the most popular. Not watched Enterprise, which seems to still be going - it is any good?

DS9 all the way. More interesting character relationships - Garrik(?) and Bashir, Quark and Odo etc. Also the Dominion War was just a torrent of neverending badassery.

TNG is GOAT.

I really liked Voyager too, but could never get on with DS9.

TNG has "The Best Of Both Worlds" and "The Inner Light", so it wins. DS9 is a very close runner-up.

For those who didn't get on with DS9, did you watch anything past the first couple of seasons? The first in particular is pretty dull for the most part, but things started to pick up in season three before exploding into something amazing from the very start of season 4.

TNG is obviously fantastic too, from the third season at least, but DS9 had the better characters and a great story arc in the Dominion War.

It was cancelled ten years ago.

The first two seasons are pretty naff (spot the theme here), but the third took things in an interesting direction with a decent season long arc, and the fourth was basically continuous Trek fan service. The rushed last episode is absolutely atrocious though, most of the crew never really had any character.

Hard to choose between TNG and DS9. The absolute best episodes were from TNG but I think DS9 was probably more consistently high quality... I need to think about this.

Anyone who puts Voyager is getting banned.

Until season 4 DS9 had more bad episodes than good.

Enterprise and Voyager don't deserve anywhere near as much flack as they get either. I'd take Archer over Sisko any day.

I think DS9 may be a better series overall but didn't have as many standout episodes as TNG. Still mulling it over, this is serious business.

I also get what people might put TOS if that's what they grew up with.

DS9 or TNG. I can't really decide. Both are good in different ways. The standalone episodes format works well for TNG, as does the story arc formula from DS9.

Feel like I should mention In the Pale Moonlight from DS9 and The Inner Light from TNG. Honorable mentions to Hard time (the best Miles O'Brien episode) as well. Classic episodes.

Only ever watched the original and TNG. Looking at them now, probably TNG, but at the time of watching, probably the original series.

Went with TNG simply because it was my first Trek series. I think the original has aged terribly and never really got on with it when I tried watching it but Ill happily watch some Voyager or DS9 every now and again. Yep, thats all the series of Star Trek that were ever made, no other one appeared on our screens, no sirree, thats all 4 of them accounted for right there.

I actually enjoyed Enterprise better than Voyager. Alot of people will probably disagree with me! I thought it had a solid arc with the Time War thing and the fourth season was pretty good apart from the finale. Voyager had some good episodes, but there was some real stupid decisions made by characters at times. It also had strawberry floating Neelix. The awesome EMH doesn't even make up for that abortion of a character.

Both series are not anywhere near the best trek though.

I've only watched TOS and Next Generation (and then not all of it) but generation is better. It was my working at home show but now I dont to work at home I dont so much tv show time. Which is a shame.
