Only seen 45 of those.

However, given some of the inclusions on that list, I'm very hesitant about using it as a yardstick for cinematic excellence. :fp:

It's not terrible overall, but maybe next year we can work through a better list?

Obviously I'm only speaking of the quality of some of the ones I've seen myself. It's mostly the older films that are missing for me.

I don't watch that many films in general, though (I only go to the cinema about once a year, for example). Even so, I'd still seen 17 of the top 20 films.

The Sting
This was great. It's basically a film version of Hustle, but a few of the surprises were obvious as Hustle had clearly ripped them straight from this film.
Only thing I didn't like was all of the string raising during the poker game. :fp:

After a recount it's actually 29 for me. Some shameful omissions there. Some may actually be unforgivable for a 38 year old film fan. Well past time i rectified this.

How the hell have you managed to miss the following...

You should watch those 6 right now. Slightly different note, but do you have something against Hitchcock?

I'd have to watch about thirty films, so no. I've seen most of the top half of the list so I think I'm not too bad.

Anyone know where I can get the original version of Star Wars IV, V and VI? Before George Lucas made changes for re-releases and gooseberry fool?

I've started doing this....if you knew how many I hadn't seen it'd be a travesty.

Anyway, started off with 2001: A Space Odyssey.

It was...odd....but I can see that a lot of references from it have been used in the future. Hal was creepy as strawberry float. I am now half-way through Full Metal jacket, the trainging stuff was very enjoyable....Poor private Pile :-(

So watched a few more!

Full Metal Jacket - 7/10 - I enjoyed it but wanted a bit more action.

Requiem For a Dream - 6/10 - 3 of that 6 are for the soundtrack which was brilliant. I understand how sad and complex the movie was, but it didn't really grip me. I didn't feel sorry for any of the characters, and the mum on diet pills was plain annoying.

City Lights - 9/10 - I absolutely loved it. Can't believe I haven't seen Chaplin before. It was so simple, but so enjoyable! And that ending  It's films like this that are the reason I decided to do this list. I never would have dreamed of watching a silent film before!

Eternal Sunshine For the Spotless Mind - 7/10 - Clever and enjoyable. Jim Carrey was a very different character to his usual role. I like the idea behind it all and kind of wish that I'd got to see if they did stay together at the end. The way 'fate' or 'love' had lead them immediately back to each other, that was nice.

The Lives of Others - I liked it. East Berlin is such an interesting place to set a film. Sometimes a bit slow but the main characters progression was Brilliant. And the Writer was really likeable. I genuinely felt engaged with the characters so it did well. 8/10
