You can use gamecube controllers using the Smash controller adapter, though, but it doesn't work with a few of the peripherals.

I am very sad this is basically DOA. I was hoping the lack of local multiplayer support would be made up for with a robust online multiplayer solution, that with free apps and one full game owning friend would basically negate the lack of local multiplayer anyway. But it is insane that they strawberry floated both options up completely. Very very sad.

Yep, that was my expectation too.

They announced it ages ago. Its had loada of development time. Don't understand what happened.

Ironically the game lends itself well to mobile play. The top-down camera means you can easily use an on-screen mechanic for an analog control and only one action button means a lack of anything to block the screen.

If you don't mind grindy loot-ridden solo games it is a lot of fun, particularly as there are very few games of this nature that aren't riddled with IAP on iOS and Android.

and done thoroughly enjoyed it. ended up actually doing most of the side quests which i never finished before and several i was unaware of. overall its very doable in single player so long as you dont mind a touch of grind, though the grind is not as bad in other games.

I can't remember, in singleplayer do you still have to carry around the crystal yourself and keep dropping it for combat?

If I remember you get a moogle to carry it for you.
