FIFA/EA - FIFA want more money! EA to rebrand annual game EA Sports FC/ FIFA to dev their own franchise going forward

EA could just update the current game thoughout the year, gradually reducing the prominence of the FIFA name and showcasing its replacement branding. By the time the next game is released, those people who only play FIFA will have been retrained to recognise the new title.

And FUT, the big cash cow, now stands for Football Ultimate Team.

I don't know what FIFA think is going to happen if EA refuse though. Konami aren't going to pay that sort of money and I can't see any other company wanting to make a new football game and pay $1b to FIFA.

Yeah, back most of the comments on here. I reckon they’ll be some sort of middle ground. EA won’t want to take the risk (but it’s a lot of money) and FIFA will know that no one else can or will pay it.

This is of course, unless activision, or Microsoft don’t sniff an opportunity to brand a football game with ‘FIFA’.

If EA tell them to strawberry float off, they'll gooseberry fool themselves.

And they probably don't want to push FIFA too hard because the more they look at their branding the more they might think they don't need it, or at least it's not worth the money they're paying.

If FIFA are so sure of the value of their brand, maybe they should buy Konami and stick the name on eFootball.

That's a much harder rebrand.

They'll easily manage to rebrand FIFA. As someone else said- use the first year's payment of 250m purely on marketing and branding instead. Any half decent agency could smash it out the park with even a fraction of that money.

That's a terrible name though, so I fully expect some compromise to be reached and both parties to continue as is. It's in the interest of both parties to keep the deal going.

I do think them losing the licence would be a good time for another developer to put out their own football game.

Honestly I'm surprised 2K don't have one already, though they are potentially even scummier than EA.

Would be good to see someone new put out a contender in the genre.
