Really want to get this but I've just got too much on the go at the moment!

Really? Not batshit mental?

What about using GF make them forget that they actually all grew up together? Or time travel? Space travel? It's batshit insane.

All pretty standard fare! :slol:

It is certainly interesting and can be hard to follow on a first run through, but it does actually largely hang together despite everything!

I still think the fans perception of the story is accurate where squall dies early into the game and the rest is purgatory

Does it have an assist to automatically draw all magic? That would be good and remove the chore of early game

The 3x speed option should help even if they don't put something like that in (which I doubt they will)

I can't remember if this has cursor memory for in battles so you can keep running the same command over and over each turn without needing to move and select each time? That will help too is so.

I hope not, the PS1 original was Dual Shock compatible so it should use the analog sticks...

I read that they’re using the code from the PC release and that had all of the analog controls stripped out back then. So no analog support in this version... I haven’t played it myself but I probably wouldn’t buy it without. There’s no voice acting either like a rumour mentioned and after watching a stream on mixer, the old backgrounds look pretty bad with the newer character models running around on top of them

- "There are points which are sadly a step back from the PS1 original"
- All character/enemy models get the HD treatment.
- Boosters: 3X speed, turn off random encounters, increase HP and limit breaks
- Resolution: Original PS1: 320x240p - Remaster: 1080p on both PS4 and Pro and removes dithering artefacts
- All original backgrounds and FMVs only have smoothing filter, no additional work done.
- 3D elements mapping (world map etc) gets no treatment, only some texture filtering.
- The gap in models and backgrounds is more obvious compared to FFVII remaster
- All console versions are running a de compiled version of the original PC version.

- No analog controls. Only 8 directional control. PS1 original had full 360* control.
- No rumble present either.
- Loading times are improved and thankfully PS1 OST is used, and the music restarting bug is not present.
- Performance: Original PS1: 30 FPS in world, 15 FPS in battles w/ 60 FPS menus (for limit breaks)
- Remaster: World = 30 FPS, battles = 16 FPS but menus also update at 16 FPS now which makes it difficult to do limit breaks and causes input delays.
- Speed increase makes everything run faster including menu refresh.
- Overall performance is *worse* than PS1 because of the above.

Well this is a disappointment

Yeh of all the Final Fantasy's to remake it should have been this one as they don't have the source code :fp:

Oh well, skipping on this I guess then.

If they can patch it to sort some stuff out then I may still get it later I guess.

I'm sure when I played the PC version back in the day the performance was well above those FPS reports - I thought the battles were running much higher than the PS1 version and the battle menus certainly were at 60FPS (I recall the limit breaks like Squall's "TRIGGER!" command were actually far easier to do on PC as a result of this)

To be fair I think it's about the best product you could hope for with the source code situation and it's got a reasonable price tag.

I've got £10 of Xbox credit expiring next week so I may still end up picking this up myself if I can't find anything else to buy before then

Interesting to see some of these pros and cons. Only thing that sticks out to me is the lack of analog, but I'm sure that can easily get patched.

I used the analogue sticks and it works ok most of the time. Not perfect, but ok.

The 3x speed is a godsend when drawing and stocking magic. Thank god.

Been Switch on handheld only so far. Very good. Is analog supposed to be an issue?

Character models look superb, especially when look at youtube videos with rose tinted glasses off

Very good to be back playing. Triple Triad though.

I ended up buying this a few days ago but I only got to play it last night for an hour

I got my first 3 summons and now I'm back at the academy after the tutorial bits. I don't even remember half of this stuff and I'm not sure that little me ever did things like junctioning magic :fp: no wonder I got stuck about 3/4 in to the game :slol:
