It's strange that this is my least liked FF and yet it's the one I'm looking most forward to.

The only thing I don’t like is the draw system. Apart from that, i love it

Not a proper remake, just a hd upscale.

I never played 7 but loved 8 and would play it again. Hope it has aged well. The gun blade is still an amazing weapon idea.

Wish my image sig would work

8 was amazing so I'm glad to hear this. Rumours were that the reason it was absent from all the event remakes and releases was that they'd simply lost the master version!

This isn't a remake though as people have pointed out, and the footage on display there looked ropey as all strawberry float. That framerate :dread:

Still. Here's hoping

Finally! It's certainly got problems but I'm still really glad they are bringing VIII back to complete the set as it were.

Much like the materia system in VII I love how flexible (and abusable!) the junctioning system is.

Some bloody good music in this game as well. Liberi Fatali

That’s why it’s titled “Remastered” not “Remake”

How did they manage this? :o I thought they had lost the source code which is why it's never been released beyond the original PS1 version

My favourite one :toot: hopefully the rose tinted specs hold up :shifty:

Nice of them to bring back the series' rock bottom for the sadists who actually want to put themselves through that tripe.

Think they managed to reverse engineer the PC version. Or they were lying.

That was my least favourite aspect of the game, i found it to be ridiculously over complicated.

One thing i did love about FF8 though was the card mini game.

The card game, Triple Triad, is indeed excellent!

On my first run through of FFVIII I also hated the junctioning system - but in reality I think I just didn't like that it was different and didn't spend any time trying to understand it properly. When you get to grips with it then it can be really fun to play around with. Several of the core mechanics tie together really well - the drawing system, levelling up GFs to learn new support abilities, junctioning and its relationship with elements etc. It's really powerful if you want to dig into it but also the basics aren't too complex.

But it is very easy to abuse if you know what you are doing - you can make a pretty unstoppable party relatively early on with the right choices.

Loved FF VIII, haven't played it to completion for years. Fond memories of its release and being absolutely blown away by the title FMV sequence. It has some of my favourite music and set pieces from the Final Fantasy series - the whole beach landing on Dollet, the accompanying music and the way that whole part of the game played out was absolutely amazing.

The visuals look to be a nice upgrade without spoiling the look of the game. I already own the previous Steam release so I wonder if this will be a new release or if they'll just update the version that's currently on there? Might be tempted to buy it on Switch either way as I'm definitely more likely to play it on that and I'd lvoe to experience it again.

I agree it has some amazing set pieces. The attack on garden is one of the best moments in any game I’ve played. And the assassination mission is epic too!
