They're the ones  .

I feel like I faced a rush of cut-scenes and storyline last night. For about two years I've (on and off) been wandering around not really knowing what I was doing, then at the weekend I knuckled down and followed the missions and it was like (Boom!) I hit level 16 and all of a sudden there were plots, characters, fights, earrings ( :o ) and banquets  . Followed by trips to Gridania and Limsa!

It was awesome and I hope to play a bit more this evening :) .

Put a little bit of time into it today. At first I struggled with the interface, but I'm slowly getting used to it. I saw someone run past me on a mount from Final Fantasy 6 and it instantly made me want to buy the game just to get that mount. I imagine it's probably stupidly hard or rare to get though. I'm enjoying it so far, very early days though, only level 12. The game actually lowered me to a lower level for one the main instanced quests. So I think I'll concentrate on those for a bit rather than many of the side quests.

What server do you play on, BAKA? I'm on Omega (EU) - recently switched from Cerberus (EU) - and I believe that Seven still spends time on Balmung (US). I'm only at level 17 but a lot of things have opened up now... I aim to make it through to be able to get a mount (which I believe happens circa level 20). After a long break away, I'm having fun easing back into it :-).

Was the mount the walking mech thing?
You get that for completing the story from the base game as I recall so basically everyone gets one if they proceed far enough.

Mounting it also changes the music.

The same server I think. There were only two accepting new characters, and the other one sounded French.

Yeah I think so. I can't remember what it's called but it's featured on the cover art of Final Fantasy VI.

Ah, cool - yeah, the other new server is Louisoix. Cerberus was taking ages to log on so I switched to Omega; but that is now pretty popular, too, and it's generally taking me around 25 to 30 minutes to log on in the evening. FF XIV has got too popular!

Yep. Been waiting just under half-an-hour and I'm still only 600th-odd in the queue :dread: .

Crumbs. A week ago I had forgotten everything about this game... tonight I attended a gay wedding ceremony at The Sanctum of the Twelve and then joined my fellow Free Company friends for a celebration in the FC house.

Amazing stuff :toot:  .

I'm in Limsa Lominsa and I've started "DPS" training... whoop! I've got a couple of cool items of clothing in completing the first few lessons but, more importantly, I've learnt about avoiding enemies' attack zones and focusing my attack on enemies that my team-members are fighting. It's good fun and now I feel like a boss* :toot: .

I don't really but I now know more than I used to  .

And here they are - new gloves, shoes and trousers :toot: .

I'm gonna complete my "DPS" (Damage Per Second) lessons and then explore the Gridania and Limsa Lominsa areas.

Love the beard. I'm a tank, but I haven't had any tank training yet. I've never been a tank in an MMO, possibly going to regret it and swiftly change classes.

I did tank a giant toad for a fate and felt properly boss. I'm not sure I understand all this Levequest stuff, I got a lot of exp for the first one though. I didn't bother with the group one... I struggle to be social with the PS4 pad. I tried to thank someone once and they vanished by the time I managed to even bring the keyboard up.

I'm only just getting my head around the role types in MMOs. A tank... is that the type that gets the enemy attention ("aggro")? In my DPS training the computer played that role whilst I chucked my fireballs and stuff around.

Yeah, it really helps to have a keyboard plugged into your PS4, BAKA - especially as the PC players are so quick off the mark. I'm using an old iMac Bluetooth keyboard... it's a wee bit dusty but it works a treat.

The important thing to remember as a tank at low level is that you're hit harder for your lack of skills than everyone else is. It can be hard to hold aggro on enemies, especially in groups, until you get your tank Stance which natively increases enmity gain on all hits. On the flip side, at these levels dungeons aren't that punishing so you don't need to worry too much and just get practice in.

That's probably the biggest roadblock that gets people, feeling like they can't do their role properly. But once you get past it then tanking is possibly the most fun since you basically become the driving force of dungeons and feel invincible when you get a good party and just pull the entire dungeon without dying.

The instant queues are also nice. I'm levelling Red Mage and it's disgusting when my friend joins and completely invalidated my 40 minute queue by swapping to Dark Knight.

Am I a Tank, then? I didn't know  . My character is a Thaumaturge and I've just hit level 18 tonight. I am in the midst of doing my DPS training in "Hall of the novice". I'm on the final test - the earlier ones were fine, albeit I had to try a few times on some of the later ones - but the final test is proving to be a real problem!

A couple of jackals enter the battlefield and the test ends whilst I'm trying to fight them. I dunno if I need to focus on the jackals or the enemy that my CPU partner is fighting. I tried it about five times without success! In the earlier tests I knew what approach to take, but I'm struggling with this one.

It feels good that I'm getting into the game, though :) .

Yeah, I thought I was DPS... maybe Met was replying to BAKA rather than me  .

MMOs, man... there is so much to take in! I'm gonna try and revisit that DPS training level tomorrow night.

Yeah I think he was. Thanks for the tips and words of advice Met! Really appreciated. I've been finishing up Disgaea 5 so haven't been back on FFXIV for a few days, but I'm looking forward to putting in a lot more hours this week.

After about twenty attempts, I completed the test! Man, I found that to be hard and I'm sure it probably isn't. The jackals were tougher than the flying things and the giant that followed! Anyway, it's done and I think I'll just wander about for a while and explore the new areas that I've found in the past week.
