Yeah this demo is great.

Combat feels absolutely amazingz even with the most basic stuff.

Hit stop and effects are spot on.

The low detail in some areas (especially character models) is a bit jarring, at least compared to FF7:R, but I'm assuming that they've focused on giant battles and effects rather than character detail, because the game looks way better in motion than it does in cutscenes.

I know how you feel.

My one complaint is that when those with helmets on talk they sound normal, not like in FFXII where they sounded like they were talking inside a helmet.

The voice acting in this is so good.

I genuinely got a bit uncomfortable at the end of the demo when Clive was shouting.

As much as I love FF7 I wish the voice acting in that game was a bit more grounded in some areas. Some of the characters just don't emote like real people and it makes it hard to empathise with them.

Glad everyone is loving the demo, I decided to not bother with the demo as i'll be buying the game anyway and im away when it releases so will buy it when im back.

Hate the release date, for me JRPG's should be released in the colder months but I guess they wanted a big window between this and FFVII Rebirth.

I found it a little slow to get going, every few seconds it takes away control for a lengthy cut scene. Maybe I’m just impatient these days. When I got to the first actual gameplay bit though I was impressed. The combat does actually feel good which surprised me after their recent attempts. I hated FF15’s hold button and watch flashy nonsense combat and never clicked with remakes merger of real time and turn based.

I stupidly thought this was out tomorrow, very happy this morning to switch on PS5 and get stuck in. Carrying on from where the demo left off.

Gamecentral:

In Short: An excellent battle system shackled to a dispiritingly dull and long-winded fantasy adventure, that takes an inordinate amount of time to say nothing of value.

Pros: The combat is excellent and should’ve been the sole focus of the game. The magic system and boss battles are great too, with very deep and versatile customisation.

Cons: Everything except the combat is convoluted, boring, and/or confusing – especially the plot. Laughably bad side quests.

Score: 6/10

Sounds about par for the course for modern FF.

DF tech video has me tempted. He did a great job of selling the game and series.
