Fought my first monster this morning. Then I went on a mission with another monster but I got scared and let my standard enemies kill it while I picked them off from afar.

Lysithea is currently my best unit, she's an absolute beast with her magic.

The classroom theme of leveling up your characters does such an amazing job of connecting you to them emotionally. I feel like they're all my children and I'm so proud of them. Ignatz needs to toughen up though.

That she is. A tip for you is that Gambits are a wonder for dealing with Monsters, can potentially wipe out every part of their armor in two actions.

Thanks, I'd mostly run out of gambits by the time I reached my first encounter but I had just enough to kill the beast without casualties. In the second monster battle I was more scared about taking it on head first and then being surrounded by enemy soldiers, rather than the monster itself.

What difficulty are you playing at? While not essential to wipe out all of their armor, doing so will drop some loot (usually rare materials that can be used for weapon forging, super useful for the late game).

Finally finished my second play through — clocked up a whopping 67 hours this time.

Much preferred my team and Claude, compared with the likes of Hubert :dread: and megalomaniac Edelgard. Special mention goes to Hilda, who went on to win most battles for me singlehanded, although I must also applaud Lysithea and her frightening power with magic.

No chance of me going through again with Dimitri. That's enough Fire Emblem for one lifetime!

I put this game down in 2019 after 50 hours / Part 1 - chapter 11 (yes, that's slow progress), and so I think I am going to start a fresh playthrough with a different house as I can't remember the story or mechanics now.

Can anyone give me some good tips on how to play the game at a more spritely rate? I played hard classic last time, so spent possibly a bit too long agonising over permutations. Dropping it to hard with permadeath off should help with this.

Any advice on how to use the monthly schedule a bit more efficiently? Explore once per month, battle once or twice? What battles can I just ignore with little impact on the story (everything other than paralogues?)

Really loved this title when it came out, but I just need a bit of motivation to start over, so any friendly / constructive advice would be massively appreciated!

It's been a long while since I played through it but I remember finishing the game thinking that it's enough to just explore once a month and only do only the paralogues. It sounds like you've already got a good idea of how to play more efficiently so go with that approach.

My last playthrough, I skipped a lot of gooseberry fool and just automated the stats allocation. Didn't bother exploring the academy much.

Ah cool, thanks guys. Does the auto stat allocation see them simply going in to the most appropriate roles automatically? I might investigate that as it was another area I would agonise over....
