Realising that I could make the sprite rush back and forth across the screen with the motion controls was a moment of unadulterated joy. Such a silly little thing to include, and I'm so pleased it's there.

Really enjoying this so far. Playing on hard / classic, and it's my first proper go at a fe game. It's proving challenging but fair.

Had a quick play this morning to get it going. I’ve picked hard/classic mode based on reviews.

Also, gone for the Black Eagles because why not

All of a sudden 10 hours have gone into this game. :dread:

Really enjoying the slower pacing at this early stage, the whole academy element really helps incentivise getting to know your squad and investing in their characters, though like every FE I've played their are some characters I will happily let die on the battlefield later on and not save scum it (I went with Golden Deer and so far Lorenz is begging to be left bleeding in the dirt).

By christ though a lot of the academy is unfinished. Mega pop-in on details like foliage and characters, plus clipping through doors all the time. It's a testament to how strong the characerisation is that I'm willing to look past that stuff, but for a mainline Nintendo franchise it's embarassing.

Yeah, the art style is wonderful in places but the Academy really looks dated.

Got my copy. I'll get stuck into it when I finish the game I'm playing now.

finally got a chance to get started, so far im not liking the characters they all feel like generic character tropes (not helping with choosing with the houses) i hope they get a bit more fleshed out

Game is consuming my life, fought my first monster earlier and to be honest it is one of the most enjoyable fights I've ever had in FE, felt big brained when I beat it comfortably.
Also some good news, the second part of my Fire Emblem series Retrospective is now live for those of you who are curious about the series Japanese origins.

Enjoy.

I preordered this a while back and preloaded it when I could but haven't played it yet - too sick to want to play T_T

15 hours in and i have only just started chapter 4. Game is absolutely amazing. I think i have my head around most concepts, although battalions and what dictates their effectiveness (battalion level, charm stat, leadership skill) still confuses me. Do battalions suffer casualties during standard combat involving the unit, or is it only when you utilize a gambit? And how does reduced numbers in the battalion impact its effectiveness?

I’m close to the end so I figured I might as well rank the blue lions based on how good I think they are as units.
Blue Lions tier list:
S - Dimitri
A - Sylvain, Mercedes, Ingrid
B - Felix, Dedue, Annette
C - Ashe

Surprised to see you rank Felix so low, I recruited him to the Yellow Deer and I have to say he has been pretty incredible. His unique ability gives +5 damage per hit when not equipped with a battalion and that with brawler knuckles that do 4 hits a round is pretty incredible. Can easily tear through the beasts as well as other units.

I’m just at the explore section before the first month’s mission. I have two activity points and no idea how to spend them (I don’t mean I can’t choose - I literally don’t know what I can do with them). What are they used for? I don’t want to end the week without using them up.

I’m ranking based on my hard mode run but I can see why a brawler Felix would be good. That said I am tempted to push him up only because levin swords have become more accessible in the late game.
He’s a good unit, no one in Blue Lions is bad but the characters I put above him can offer more than a good speed growth.

I'm 17 hours in and just starting chapter 5. This game is going to take me a life time. But it is so, so good.
Playing on hard classic, proving a good challenge so far, love the aggro lines that help you to plot how to bait out enemies.

If someone dies in a training battle, are they dead (I have permadeath on). I know some battles allow death, but not sure if those do.
