kindly never use that analogy again

You ask very politely so I'll try to resist the temptation.

Also is there actually much difference between the stories or do they all essentially so the same thing from a slightly different angle? Is it worth sinking another 40 hours or whatever it is to go through a different house at a higher difficulty level?

Well chuff me I’ve finished a Fire Emblem game.

Not sure if I ever got to the end of the Gamecube one but this is the first I’ve managed to see through in a bout the past 2 or 3 efforts. I’m not sure how much was down to the quality of the game and how much was the dire release calendar this year. I did end up enjoying it quite a lot though and could have easily done another few hours.

It’s still firmly in Nintendo’s B tier of games which is a shame because I think it’s been the case for a while that if they really went for it on one of these it could be stinking. My main gripe is that the gameplay doesn’t battle mechanics really don’t develop at all. You get a few obstacles and the monsters but in terms of what you’re doing it gets a bit repetitive. Several times I found myself autobattling to get back to skipping through the lacklustre relationships stuff to get back to autobattling. I can see why Ob’s wife loves it as it’s a very back seat gamer game, even to play a lot of the time. I really wish the relationships stuff was as good as Persona 5 because most of the time I was just randomly jabbing options and ended skipping through all the support dialogue for everyone but my favourite characters.

I did end up likening quite a few of the characters and it was really nice how distinct they all were. Ferdinand was an absolute boss for me, Linhardt a real life safer, Petra just a boss and training up Bernaditta was immensely satisfying. Having Shamir and Felix to bolster the team really helped to.

Overall story was the best thing about it for me though I reckon. It was absolutely bonkers and tackled themes more mature than I realised Fire Emblem got into. It’s still cloaked in a pretty hokey old times fantasy veil but with coops, war between church and state, executions and betrayl its pretty strawberry floating non stop balls to the wall. I ended up marrying no one as my only options were Bernaditta and Manuela, both of which felt wrong as I felt best about Dorothea and Petra, don’t know how I strawberry floated things up with them. Only Caspar of my initial students died and that was like in the second battle. I didn’t miss him at all.

Very pleasantly surprised I stuck with it for 40 hours, but please go back to Advance Wars.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Every battle turned into the same pattern of sending up the main character and Edelgard to absorb the initial damage, with the others behind for healing and ranged support. If Rabbids can manage it, I'm sure this could have done, with a little more thought.

I assume there's no chance of you jumping back in? Which difficulty level did you play? I feel like I owe it to the Alliance to see them to victory, given that I just steamrolled a new imperial empire into absolute power, with the aid of someone literally known as the Death Knight.

I liked the DLC, felt very traditional with the fixed classes and limited resources.
Story was pretty garbage but it did give us lore (Like Byleth's age).
I'm more interested in how it will all interact with the main game.

After over 95 hours, I finished my playthrough as the Black Eagles.

I chose to fight against Edelgard - I didn't see it coming that she was the Flame Emperor but it was clear that she and Hubert were up to something. If I had more time, I'd play through the other paths but Pokémon Shield has been calling me for a while and I have other games unplayed or unfinished.

This is the first Fire Emblem that I've completed and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My next closest game to completion is awakening which I ended up stopping at the final battle for some reason  The QoL features in Three Houses like showing support levels on the battlefield and generous Divine Pulse usage helped me stay engaged. The story was interesting and delivered well - between the narrator and cast, I really cared for my students and the world around them. I was a little apprehensive about the monastery sections but they really help flesh out the characters and their relationships which gave the story more weight.

Started this this weekend and I just completed the mock exam. Chose to teach the Leicester Alliance. It's my first Fire Emblem game and all the stats and character traits seem a bit obtuse but hopefully as I play more I'll start to understand it all and get into it. I won the mock exam fairly easily but never felt sure that I really knew what I was doing.

After playing the DLC side story I've been doing NG+ Maddening Blue Lions. The DLC really lets you break the game, the dlc boosters give me a super Byleth.
I love the 4 Ashen Wolves, very strong units with very good supports. I think Yuri might be one of the best units in the game.

I actually jumped straight back in to a Hard campaign with the Alliance.

I'm approaching the end of Part 1 now and enjoying it more than the first playthrough. I've only lost one member (Leonie) so far and, aside from a mega hash of wasting large amounts of skill points by training Claude to be a flying archer (which of course it turns out doesn't exist  :fp:), it's really satisfying to actually know what you're doing from the beginning and seeing the skills/abilities come flooding in.

Looking forward to seeing what the team looks like in Part 2 far more than I probably should be :slol:.

I have yet to do Alliance or Crimson Rose. Blue Lions was my favourite out of the two I've played.

Had a good session on this this morning and feel like I'm getting to grips with it more now. Made a huge tactical f-up on the first proper battle which ended up in me wasting all of my rewind ability and having a student die. I've considered that a practice run though and quit out of the hand to avoid the permadeath just this once.

It's cool, I like it.

Does the DLC integrate into the main story, or is it a standalone?

This game is so sinister...

"Professor, a minor lord is leading a rebellion in our kingdom. Why is there rebellion under our rule? Don't ask, just follow our army into battle and kill all the stragglers that manage to survive. For the church!

And it would be nice if this display of violence were extra brutal in order to deter any of our students from even considering disagreeing with our methods."
