Not sure if this is better than Awakening or not but at the very least this is miles better than Fates.

That said I'm getting tired of the multiple routes thing they've been doing for the past couple of games and I hope the next fire emblem has only one path.
I don't want to play the game three times to understand the whole story.

so whats edelgard's deal? why did she start a world war and then spend the enitre second half of the game looking forlorne about the horror's of war

She basically wants to kill Rhea who is actually a giant crazy psychotic dragon (because we can’t have a fire emblem game without a dragon as the final boss can we)

Edelgard’s ultimate goal after the war is to create a world without crests and nobels

hmm well the golden deer story suggests that edlegard was being manipulated by the true villains who wanted to kill rhea cause of who she is and their arrogance

i bet that stroy expansion dlc they mention will another path where we find out whats really happening

Yeah there's zero chance I'll be doing two more playthroughs after this one. I'll just read up on the story differences with the other houses.

Do you mean the group called "those who slither in the dark" (God that name is so stupid). Edelgard reluctantly works with them to defeat the church and Faerghus. It's implied that after the war Edelgard and Byleth battle and defeat that group in a different war off screen but I not certain on that

Ak. Just looked up how to get a Dark Seal (respeccing Byleth as a Dark Mage) and got a minor spoiler for the end of Act 1. It's something that's been heavily foreshadowed but still. Seems a bit silly to have Dark classes available from the off if you're not going to provide the means to use them until a significant way into the game.

Not sure what you mean. Your first opportunity to get a dark seal is fairly early on. When I got it a few of my units were ready to go into intermediate classes and I turned one of them into a Dark Mage straight away. You might have missed it since it's from an optional fight during the chapter 4 mission.

Without spoilers, where do you get it from?

It's a drop from an enemy that will properly test you at that early point in the game. You can see if enemies have drops by a green treasure bag symbol next to them on the screen, at which point hovering over them shows all their deets including inventory.

It's mostly to stop Rhea from killing everyone who doesn't follow the church and have a world without gods or the church controlling it. It doesn't go into much detail as to what Rhea actually is but I suppose that's explained in the church route. A few of the plotlines aren't actually resolved or explained on this route which is disappointing. I could basically sum up the second half as Rhea's a giant monster who kills people, go stop her

well actually the golden deer path which i took explains who and what rhea is which givens you an insight into her behaviour and paints her a slightly more benevolent light and implies that edelgard's hatred for her comes from the tricks of "those who slither in the dark"

On the black eagle route, "those who slither in the dark" barely show up in the second half. You find out the leader is Edelgard's uncle but that's the most relevance they have. You don't even see the death knight at all. He's only mentioned by Manuela when you talk to her during free time.

They might have influenced Edelgard like you said but nothing I've seen hints at that. If anything she's suspicious of them but they're hand waved off as "We'll deal with them later"

Interesting that the golden deer path explain's Rhea whole thing. I thought that would have been saved for the church route. Make's me more curious about that path but I'm taking a break from the game and I don't want to start another playthough so soon.

actually thinking about it they only suspect those who slither in the dark of manipulating edelgard its never actually confirmed. they say you need to watch out for her uncle but they never say way so thats that explained. death knight is in the golden deer path but its still unclear what his deal is.

i suppose in the different paths they may have different levels of control over her

i hear that, im curious about the other routes but im gonna save them for another time

Yeah, I'm trying to play it without losing anyone anyway, so maybe that's adding to the difficulty.

All of the dudes. All of them.

I got Felix and I've been training him, he's really quite brilliant. Catherine and the Archer tutor (I forget her name Shaymir or something?) are good as well.
