Did your school have the blue hymn books?

Lord of the Dance was a regular favourite from it, as was If I Had a Hammer, and A Man For All The People (the latter being No.27 in the book if i remember rightly).

Yep, we did Yellow Submarine too, and When i'm 64, I think a lot of my primary school teachers at that time grew up in the 60's as they really did like their Beatles songs.

We used to do a new Beatles or Elvis song each week at primary school and then perform it sort of thing at the end of the day Friday, the whole of year 5/6 would cram into one room to do it (the years were merged at my school so that when you went to secondary school there was a good chance of there being someone you knew there)

There's six?!

Oh jeez, took me long enough to be able to remember the first.

Yup. Here's the sixth verse:

Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the Queen!

Wow, I'm assuming this is probably a very old verse that was dropped?

I'm a stickler for tradition but in this case maybe a new anthem is in order.

Also what happens when it's a King on the throne? Do you have a backup song?

God Save the Queen is the backup song.

God Save the King is the usual anthem. I’ll leave you in suspense as to how it sounds.

You replace the word Queen with King, God Save the King

Yeah, for sure. They're probably the best set of sub-national flags in the world.

By stark contrast, Liberia has these county flags:

These are just indefensible. Are those trees floating in the sky in that last one?

Ah yes, the mythical severed arm holding a thermos flask over a river. A staple of west african folklore.

Alright, I think I have a solution that will solve this Scottish issue, while still being quintessentially British.

When Charles takes the throne he writes a new song himself, all about diversity and being united and how much he loves nature.

That right will dislike comments about nature and the like, and the left will dislike the hereditary monarch overstepping his bounds. Literally no one will be happy! :toot: The British way (at least based off what I've learned here).

He should write that First Past The Post is the best voting system and upset the Lib Dems and the Greens, too.
