As you may have realised if you go to the backlog topic, for the first time in years and maybe my first ever console I have my backlog of unplaced finished games to 5 (3 of which I am currently playing). This is mostly due to me working on my FOMO with new games and only purchasing games on day of release if I truly will give it some playtime. Not only has this stopped me buying games on release but allowing me to finish games I am currently purchasing and when I do come to buy the next game I have ever passed my need for it or it has dropped in price (win/win).

This is the first time in a while where I am not desperate for the new console. Last gen I said I would drop the Xbox which I did although I also said I would ove to one console however, I bought a switch. Going forward I will keep to a PS5 no matter what the Xbox brings.

It has taken a lot of work but I really think I have my FOMO under control, I don’t buy new phones every year, I only purchase new tech when I have had my use out of the older versions or if the gap is worthwhile.

Has anyone else managed to control their FOMO, I see some of your backlogs so I’m guessing not

I'd like to get PS5 and Series X, but I'm not feeling like I'm missing out by waiting.

Why buy a console with no games?

My gaming backlog is literally hundreds but I no longer feel bad about it; systems and games are to be enjoyed and, whenever I choose to pick out a game and play it, there is no pressure - I just play it for as little or as long as I want to. I try not to let the expectations of others influence my own choices.

I've been away from FOMO on electronic products for some time now. I have an ancient 2G mobile phone, my TVs are old and outdated, my blu-ray player is the one I bought in 2007 and my hi-fi broke so I don't have one at the moment.

When my finances change I would like to get some new kit but, for now, I'll enjoy the stuff that I currently have.

I have a huge backlog and really don't need a new console, nor does the lineup of exclusive games at launch so I'm happy to wait on one hand, on the other hand I've set stock reminders of my phone for tomorrow when I change my mind

I managed to get myself out of this habit in the mid 360 gen, though I did buy a Series X day 1. I never had an Xbox One so it made more sense to get one now rather than a still fairly expensive One X and the upgrade again in a few years, while I’ve been lucky my job isn’t effected by the pandemic but I’ve hardly spent anything due to being home for the last 8 months.

I have a huge backlog but don’t see it as some chore to get through. I know I’ll always been able to find something interesting and different to play. Most of what I play is years old. My last month has been going though Dead Rising 2, Forza Horizon 2 and 3, Halo 4, Fable Anniversary and The Walking Dead season 1.

I used to buy every console but now I'm down to one which will be the PS5. I looked at all the consoles one day and thought wtf am I doing. Sold them all along with a top end graphics card and stuck to ps4.
I've missed out on some game like gears 5 and Mario odyssey but I'll live with it. In general I live with as little stuff as possible and get rid of anything I don't use.

I am somewhat of a collector/hoarder but I love the idea of minimalist living. I genuinely don't know if I will continue collecting stuff or go for an all-out clearance over the next few years; both have their attractions.

To be honest, i have no FOMO at all when it comes to the new consoles, i didn't buy a PS4 until over a year after release and i will again hold off until there are at least some next gen games i actually want.

The PS5 will give all Plus members 21 of them at launch. Admittedly 20 of those are PS4 games, but most of them will run with some kind of boost. Chuck in a small handful of good launch games and it was worth it for me...

(I'm not, I confess, that bothered about Bugsnax)

My problem isn't FOMO... I know I want a console... I just get immense guilt whenever I spent that amount of money on myself when I have a young family and probably should be saving it.

Been arguing with myself all week about getting a ps5 this morning. :fp:

I refuse to see my collection as a backlog. I’ll never complete them all (I have stupidly high standards on what “complete” means). I buy far more games than I’ll ever play, but it means the ones I do end up playing in full are the ones I like the most. Some might see it as a waste, but I’m at peace with it. I mean, some people buy clothes and literally never put them on.

I was the same, working on my backlog and trying to get it down to 0. I made quite a lot of progress too, getting it down to 5 games. Then lockdown and Covid hit, with more game time, so I splashed out on a few sub-£20 games like Skyrim Switch, AC: Odyssey, Hitman 2 etc. These were fairly cheap, but big games, so my backlog has crept back up somewhat.

I don't tend to buy full price games, unless they are Nintendo titles, which hold their value. The exception this year was TLOU2 which I had a weak moment with, though did manage to complete it.

I got hugely drawn in by the next gen preorder hype so have ended up with an Xbox Series S and three years of Gamepass. In theory, I plan not to buy another game for that, though we will see how that works out.

I do plan to get a PS5, as I like some of the exclusive series in Sony's console and I'm wedded to the console for stuff like Destiny and my clan, ESO etc.

I'm not too bothered about spending money on consoles, as the way I see it, they do often pay for themselves. When I got a PS4 in November 2014, it was a lot earlier than I planned, but I've definitely stuck the hours into it. The quicker you buy it, the more usage you can get out of it.

The Xbox is a little different, as I do have a Switch already, and my main was going to be the PS5. The price point of the S and value of Gamepass convinced me it would be a good little extra though, especially as I liked the OG Xbox and 360, but didn't get a Xbone.

Though saying that, in previous generations when I have had three consoles, one always gets neglected... Unfortunately at the moment that may be the Switch.

Seeing peoples new consoles being delivered is exciting but I have extreme FOMO, I can remember the feelings I have had previously when I have been to midnight launches and getting home and unboxing everything, setting it up etc

I can't say I was DYING for my Series X but on the other hand, I can't imagine going back and playing my Xbox One X. The quality of life improvements alone are pretty big. Apart from PS exclusive titles, I don't feel I'm missing out that much, especially with gamepass. Cyberpunk will be bought and that's me done buying games for quite a while. I'm actually gaming a lot more since I got my Series X but I think some of that was because I was holding off on some titles till the SX.

As far as phones go, I have zero desire to own the latest and greatest and I get whatever upgrade is cheapest every 2 years.

I think this gen will be a better one exclusive wise for MS if only because of the 23 studios (so far). I also (just reading up on things) believe in the SX at least there may be a widening of performance 2-3 years down the line in multiplat games so that side of 'missing out' will be negligible.
